Camus and his weird name

After we picked the name, we realized very soon how difficult and weird it sounds to american ear.

- Ca...what? - How did you say? -What's that? -Why? - Camoooo? - What a weird name?, etc. :)

Another mystery is why most of the people assume that he is a girl. I guess, they think: only girls can be so cute.

I am almost sure that this happens to many of you  and your cute doodles look like girls to people around, specially puppies.

@Rose Ann - I once has someone say to me in that knowing, sympathetic voice "ohhhh you let the kids name him."  Uh no, we don't have any kids.

F-Park her-- No Tah rah, no Ta raw, no Tear ah. We say Tawr (as in paw) a . Both a's are pronounced the same, accent on the Tawr' a...

I get the same thing with Amante. People say "what is that suppose to be" or my fav "what made you pick that".

Camus didn't sound strange as a dog-name to me.  Of course, we have Beowulf and Grendel in our dog family, and they were named before Angelina was in that movie.  :)

BG, Deanna and Karen-Nope Tara's name has nothing to do with Scarlett and the gang. She is named after the Buddhist goddess Tara, which is, at least in this country, not nearly as well known or popular as the All My Children characters! LOL!

I thought Tara's name was also pronounced like Scarlett's home GWTW.

Tara is my stepdaughter's middle name, but she wasn't named for the plantation...she was named for the one of the original characters on All My Children a million years ago, lol.

I love the name "Camus" - even know how to pronounce it and know about Albert.  However, I did not know about the cognac!

@ Ricki - Oh no - all this time, I've been guilty of the mispronunciation (in my head, of course).  I see "Tara" and think of Scarlett, Rhett, and Gone with the Wind!

We once had someone think our dog was called Pooper!!!!! Everyone thinks Cooper is a boy - not just from her name but because shes big brown and furry. The pink collar (ok thats hard to see) pink leash and pink rain jacket doesnt seem to help them!
