Woo Hoo! We did it! We made it the 10 miles to obedience class without up-chucking! Today I gave Harlow her Dramamine at 6:00 AM (our class is at 10:00 AM). She stilled drooled on the way, but not as much; it only took one tea towel to dry her chin rather than the normal two. What’s more, she was also lively for the class and was working with a spring in her step. Then we made the 10 miles back home without getting car sick.

Yes, I use OTC. I think giving Harlow the Dramamine a few hours before class got her past the sleepies.

Wow..it is really comforting to read that others have this problem too. Frankie is such a good puppy (6 months) and I want to take her everywhere, but she too, starts with the drooling thing first and then up comes the entire stomach contents. I am not sure if it is true car sickness or just being nervous and slightly timid. She does fine on short jaunts to dog park etc, but any further than a few miles...up chuck time. I was so fascinated to read about the Dramanine but does it not make them sleepy???

Are you talking about plain OTC Dramamine? I'll have to ask my vet how much to give Cocoa... she is always throwing up in the car. We're planning to take her with us on vacation in a couple of months, which will require a 2 1/2 hour car drive (up a mountain road at that!) and I have been wondering what to do.

Harlow is 50LBS so I give her 1 tablet. The vet recommended it that last time I was there. Last week I gave it to her an hour before and didn't feed her but she threw-up just as I parked the car. This time was 3.5 hours before class and she did much better.

Hmmm. Never thought of Dramamine... Not that we travel much with her in the car. But just the 10 minute ride back and forth to the groomer keeps me at the edge of my seat. Especially when the drooling starts. Is it better to let them look out the window, or lay down on the seat when driving? I love to take her more places, which really would help her with her nervousness going into the groomer (at Pet Supplies Plus). NEVER fails! As soon as we walk into the store she poops refuses to walk further and usually sits in her poop, so now her butt has to be shaved HUH! It's such a hassle.

Guinness still gets carsick on any trip over 30 minutes. I haven't tried the Dramamine yet. How much do you give Harlow?
