A number of years ago I started a tradition of having a Christmas in July holiday dinner at our house. I love turkey dinner. I love the turkey and all of the wonderful side dishes that go with it and can’t figure out why we have it only twice a year. So that said, I purchase the most inexpensive meat there is – turkey – and off I go on a mission to serve up the works with all of the holiday spirit. This year I was painting my mom’s house so we moved the meal over there but really, turkey dinner is turkey dinner rand I don’t care WHERE we eat it.
A very good friend of mine raises turkeys for fun (and eating) so he gave us one for our Christmas in July gathering. When I prepped it for brining I noticed one of the legs had come out of the socket so it was kinda hanging weird. No big deal, I’ll eat it anyway. Once brining was complete I prepped it for baking and shoved her in the oven for the day. Yes, it was a “her” and do you know why it was a her? Because weirdly enough, when I took her out of the oven she looked like she was more ready for an OBGYN exam than for the dining room table. It was a bit awkward looking at her so I had my brother carve her up quickly so my husband didn’t get any ideas. I wish you guys could have seen my 76 year old mother – the preacher’s wife – laughing so hard she was crying. Good Times……

We love turkey too and I think we need to institute your plan! We brine and put ours on the grill. Yum, yum, yum... regardless of embarrassing leg positions. ;o)
i love a good turkey dinner with all the fixings!
Marnie, You are a hoot! Happy Turkey in July day! I love all the stuff that goes along with the turkey dinner, but I don't like turkey :) I would still come. LOL
We actually had dinner on the 28th, Lonnie, as that wa when everyone in the family could make it - as close as we could get to the 25th. And I say everyone should have a big turkey dinner at least once a month as it is one of my favorites. Copy away!
Sheila, I swear you would have hit the floor laughing at my mom.
Oh Marnie..... I'm shaking my head.... there are no words except, hahahahaha !! Merry Christmas :)
OMD this is hilarious and so cute! Definitely a female turkey I would say:) Do you have the dinner on the 25th of July! What a great idea and I totally agree with you about only having turkey twice a year. I might be adding a new tradition to our family if you don't mind us copying you! Wonderful idea, thanks for sharing Marnie!
