Labradoodle & Goldendoodle Forum

I remember when we first got Darwin everyone was so drawn to his scruffy soft fur. Looking at his old pictures I have to laugh... He's not fluffy at all compared to what he is now. Everywhere we go people are always asking if he is an Old English sheepdog. I have to say, I don't see the resemblance... but he does have a similar... puffiness.

I think his hair grows fairly fast for a doodle. We cut him down to an inch when he was five months old because his fur was so long. At eight months, his fur has already grown back in with a vengeance. I love his fur long... I currently brush through and comb him every night and I'm hoping this is enough to stay on top of those impending matts. I really don't want to cut him short again!

Now that he has long hair again I can't help but want to hug him after we have bathed and blow dried him, he looks like a huge cotton ball, and he's so soft! There are even a few owners where I live that refer to him as "the polar bear." and "the abominable snowman." (due to his severe love of getting snow all over himself no doubt.)

Now I have to work on getting that brown stain out of his beard...

Any tips on getting him to let you brush him. I am currently brushing Toby weekly and it is a struggle he hates it! He is a fluff ball to and I should be doing it nightly. The biggest problem area is the hair on the front of his legs. This has gotten worse as we romp in the snow.

Such a handsome, fluffy boy. I let Halas' coat grow out to about 8 inches before he ever got a short haircut. Now I keep it at about 2 or 3 inches. The dreaded matting really got to me. I had a bad wrist, so keeping up with the brushing was pretty painful. But I love the long-haired, fluffy look. Sounds like you have a great brushing routine, so that should help you get through the matting stage.

He's soooo cute! We get the English Sheepdog thing and have now even gotten the "Is he a Wheaten Terrier?" question. They always seem surprised when I tell them he's a Goldendoodle.
