DMIL Quote of the Weekend

This weekend we went with DMIL and DFIL (doodle mother-in-law and doodle father-in-law) to the lake.  Yes, WITHOUT DOGS. I was so mad about that because they have a goldendoodle too and I told them "hey, let's get a lakehouse that accepts pets and take 'em all!".  They didn't for some reason...excuse was that the boats do not accept dogs since we were renting and would be out on them all day.  Oh well.  Choodle had an excellent time at DG (doodle grandparents - my parents!).

 

Anywhoooo....conversation of course turned to when we are going to have HUMAN kids.  DH's brother is on the 3rd child currently and are throwing out names like Hermoine (yes, Harry Potter) and Atticus!  WTD?  Sorry if there are any of you with kids with those names...my bro-in-law is officially nuts.

 

I digress.....DH and I were saying we have been enjoying traveling, being with doodle and chi, and just being selfish right now!  I know, terrible, but it's true!  We are getting closer and closer to possibly being able to stand the idea of a little human one (I am exaggerating)....the thought does not make me GAG like it used to :)  As we were saying this, DMIL simply said....:

 

"Ally, you are so OBSESSED with Peri and Taquito...think of the love you feel for them.  Now multiply that by 1,000 and that's how you will feel about your human kids".

 

Now my DMIL can drive me crazy...sure most of you can relate.  But, she said that in the kindest voice and the subject was dropped...it was a good conversation that made me think..."HOW CAN I LOVE ANYTHING A THOUSAND TIMES MORE THAN CHOODLE?  MY HEART WILL EXPLODE!!!!"

 

That was my weekend in a nutshell.  Good times sans choodle plus human kid conversations.  Glad to be back at work and then home with choodle.

As I am anxiously waiting for school to start so I don't have to listen to my darling 9 and 12 year old daughters fight everyday. I think my ears are going to bleed at anytime if I have to hear "mom, ava did blah bah blah" or "mooooom Kelsey is being a brat make her stop!" one more time. Just today I said to them "hunter and I will be glad when you guys are at school all day!" and then I said to hunter, do you think we should trade them in for two more doodles like you? Secretly I could tell hunter was saying yes, yes I can't stand hearing them whine and complain either!

But then Hunter chewed up my very favorite pair of sandals, or I should say one sandal and she was on the irritating list. Then I found myself laughing hysterically as Ava says to Kelsey " what's in your shorts?" Kelsey replies nothing but I have a Tootsie Roll in my underwear" Ava says "uh why do you have a Tootsie Roll in your underwear?" to which Kelsey replies "duh Ava because I don't have any pockets and I don't want to eat it now".

Either route you choose you will love for different reasons :-)

It's all up to you and DH but at least it was put out there. My sister and brother both said they would never have kids and I always wanted kids-they now each have 2 boys and I have none. Dh has "issues" so I pray for that miracle everyday, but everyone is different.

Only you will know when the time is right! And maybe you may decide not to. That is ok too!! Try not to let them get to you.

I was 28 before having my daughter.  My daughter was 29 before having her baby.  We're both so glad we waited until the time was right, despite pressure from some family members.

We opted to not go the kids route.  I can with all honesty say that no one has ever questioned me on that decision, be it complete stranger, friends or my family.  I think my parents always assumed there would be kids, but there was never any pressure and no one ever made me feel bad because of the decision.  It is actually sort of a family joke now as I have a brother and a sister that each have two children and DH has 3 brothers that each have 2 children ........ we opted for two Doodles!

You will know when its the right time Allyson.  And your MIL is probably quite right and you heart will explode.  Some people however decide never to have children (ahem) and that's okay too!  People (stangers even) seem to think they have the right to question me on this point.  I have responded by saying "it wasn't in the cards for us."  This ambiguous reply tends to shut people up in case I am referreding to some type of "problem."  Glad you had a great week!

I agree with Camilla, F & Laurie - enjoy this time without little ones!  When you are ready, you'll both know it.  I had my first child when I was 21.  Way, way too young looking back now but at the time not unusual at all.  My youngest of 3 children is 27.5 yrs old and not even married.  Times are different now so don't let anyone push you but I'll admit that I sometimes talk (whine might be a better word) about wanting some grandkids - my children just laugh it off!!!

I hear you on parents pushing for grandchildren! I say wait until you are ready, until then, I'm sure your pups will enjoy being the main focus of your attentions. :-)
