I think it was my very first blog post when I mentioned I wanted to add a "dog tub" to the house 'cause I really don't fancy bending over my own tub for half an hour each time I wanna wash His Majesty the Fluff. My old back can't take that. Anyway, it's finally done ... and we're both (yes, both, he looooves baths and had to show it off to his Auntie Cindi by trying to jump up into it) delighted with it! Thought I'd share in case anyone is curious or looking for ideas.

This turned into a bigger project than I'd first thought ... involving a contractor, a plumber, and where the heck did that electrician come from?! ...  and rearranging my entire laundry room to find space to put it amongst the washer, dryer, and hot water heater, but I don't regret it a bit. Getting Lachlan up to my height makes bathing easy, which is fortunate 'cause Mister Aromatic needs regular baths! The top of the tub is even with my hip (I'm 5'6"), putting him right up at my height.

The tub is a cast-off from a previous job where the contractor was remodeling someone's bathroom. He called me up and asked "hey, d'you want?" Oh heck yeah! Saves me the trouble and expense of having to buy one! It's a full-size bathtub and is in great condition, although it doesn't look terrific. (Hey, I'm not having tub parties in it, I'm washing the dog!) The frame is simply 2x4's and 4x4's with a plywood shelf. I'm using a plain ol' garden hose because it makes it easier to direct a large volume of water without spraying it into his eyes, nose, mouth, and ears. The electrician had to move one outlet and swap another out for a water-proof one, but happily he also discovered that the breaker for the dryer was shot and replaced that as well before it could burn my house down!

It's not pretty; it's strictly utilitarian ... but it's soooooo nice to wash My Stinkiness without my back whimpering for mercy!

My apologies for the quality (or lack thereof) of the photo with Lach in it ... that was shot quickly with my phone camera because I haven't added an eye bolt to the wall to attach him to yet and I didn't want to risk him trying to climb out.

The end result, both tub and puppy look great. And yes we all could use a tub like that but I can't think of a place for it here.

Wonderful idea.  We could all use a tub like that!

Excellent idea!  Rua fits in the sink in my laundry room, but I wouldn't mind having something a wee bit bigger...and elevated like that.  I just showed my DH and told him..."next house we build I am going to have a dog room"!
