Tonight on the news there was a story about the rescued animals from Katrina now showing signs of a deadly disease. Has anyone else heard of this and know any more.

Heartworm prevention pills are give monthly. the treatment can be dangerous so prevention is the way to go.

As far as I know there is testing for heartworms as well as pills taken yearly.. It is just a matter of being aware and getting the testing and treatment. It is not a for sure those animals all will be sick. Just another strike against them in life already made difficult

It was on CTV.ca, local news link Southwestern Ontario, Kitchener area. It said that many of the rescues came over the border into Canada after having only one negative heartworm test. The cases of Heartworm have increased dramatically in rescues from Katrina.

No, I did not see that. Please send me any links you have on this if you can find them. I am doing research in this area. Thanks, Joanne
