A couple of months ago I planted Brussels Sprouts in the garden. A few days later I noticed that 1 plant was missing. A few days after that two more plants weren't in the row. I did find one plant and replanted it.
It occurred to me that the crows who were messing around under the large pecan tree next to the garden must be the culprits. I was on my way to town when this thought came to me so I stopped by a dollar store and found a witch. I took her home and moved a pole I had for a bird feeder to the garden and hung the witch on the pole. The crows left the Brussels Sprouts alone after that and they have grown into large plants and are making sprouts.
DH and I noticed that Haley would not play ball next to the garden. If I threw the ball he would lay down at the end of the garden and would not go after the ball at all. No amount of encouragement would get him to chase the ball unless we threw it in another area of the yard.
Since Halloween and Thanksgiving are gone I finally took the witch down and now Haley will play ball next to the garden. Who would have thought that a "scare crow witch" would be a scare doodle.

LOL! That witch is pretty scary looking!! For Halloween I hung a witch on the front porch and Tara could see it from her window perch. She went wild barking at it until I took her outside to "meet" it! Then she was fine. Maybe next year you can introduce the two of them!! :)
Great story! Who knew the powers of a scaredoodle! Brussels Sprouts--a friend would cook them to tender in the microwave, then cut them in half and put them in a pan with a little butter and soy sauce--yum! She'd just keep a bowl of these on the counter for snack food. Delicious!
OMD! I need a scaredoodle for out raspberry patch. Owen has decimated it. No raspberries this fall and definitely no raspberries next spring. There are only a few canes left. :o(
awe. that's a cute story. Sophie would have been petrified of that "scaredoodle".
Too funny!!! I think you are on to something here!!
I like this idea!!
This could be an ingenious way to keep dogs out of gardens. Who knew? Haley must feel so much better now that the wicked witch is gone.
I think JD would be scared of that scaredoodle witch, too! I'll bet Haley is happy she's gone and he can play ball again! And your property is gorgeous, BTW!
