Duffy's first haircut, I hate it! How long til it grows back?

Well, it's time to take the annual christmas picture, the kids & I were thrilled because this year we have 2 new pups to include. Well Duffy's hair grew very long so I wanted him to look nice for the picture I had Hubby take him for his first haircut & I gave him the print out from this site which he gave to the groomer & I gave instructions over the phone that I didn't want it too short. Well My son just came home from school & was so upset with how Duffy looks he send me a text photo. I think they gave him a poodle cut, I know he is half poodle but I wanted a doo cut. My Son doesn't
even want him in the christmas picture. How long will it take to grow back?

We have given Ned 3 hair cuts in his 8 months. He has really curly thick fur. The groomer calls his cut a scissor cut. Last time I was so concerned that it not be too short that he actually looked pretty much the same when we picked him up (a waste of money perhaps). He is matting some now and it is really hard to brush him thoroughly and often enough. We may shorten his hair next time, but I am paranoid about it being too short. It is stupid because it would grow out - it is just that if you like the scruffy look, you like the scruffy look. I do know how you feel because I feel the same way. Looking in the bright side, at least some members of your family like it and it will take longer before he needs another cut AND it will be easier to take care of.

Thanks all, I feel a little better about it today, I really like the "scruffy look". In my house we are 50/50 Stephen & I aren't thrilled but Alyssa & my Hubby kind of like it.

What's up with groomers wanting to give poodle cuts?? I had the same experience... except I didn't have pictures scheduled.. honestly, I think Duffy looks cute.. and in a week or so when the shaving on the nose starts growing a bit - it will make the world of difference. Good luck!

I have to laugh because we had this same problem. I will attach the before and after photos. We knew that Yoda was going to have to be cut short because he was full of matts when we adopted him, but I still don't think my DBF was prepared. I had to call him and warn him when I was on the way home from the groomers because he really prefers Yoda with longer hair! I think he is adorable both ways, but we won't be cutting him that short again anytime soon! By the way, it has been about a month and he is fluffy again!

I think he is darling...but, I had a haircut two months ago and couldn't wait till it grew a little. I told the stylist that he needed some bifocals. My trim wound up being a 4 inch haricut;. No matter how many times you tell some people trim or show them a picture they have their own interpretation and intent. If you are that upset put a little santa outfit on him. Personally I think he is precious.

I really like what my groomer does with Halas. They have a Face, Feet, and Fanny package, which includes bath, drying, brushing, nail trimming, trimming around the sanitary areas, trimming around feet/between toes, cleaning out the ears, and trimming a little on the face if necessary. So they really don't cut the coat at all, just a little clean-up in the areas that need it. She always comes out when I drop Halas off to find out what I want, because she knows that every once in awhile, he needs some trimming around the eyes or on the top of his head. When she shaves on the nose and around the eyes, it grows back very quickly, so I don't even worry about that. There's only been one time that I thought the hair on top of his head was cut a little too short. With the short hair on top, and the long ears and long hair everywhere else, he looked like he had a doodle mullet.

So maybe next time, just tell them you don't really want much cut at all. He just needs the basics - nails, feet, fanny, etc., and if his hair is drooping into his eyes, maybe trim a little there. I think a lot of groomers are still unsure how to cut a doodle, and there are probably a wide variety of preferences among doodle owners, so it's hard to find a standard.

I'm sorry your upset about the change, but I still think your doodle is very adorable!! I was kind of shocked that you didn't like the cut when I saw the picture.

I think you should "dress" him up for the photo if you don't like the cut. Like Leslie said, put a Santa hat or a scarf on him. I hope you decide to still include him in your Christmas photo.

It will probably take 3-4 weeks before you start to see hair growth. Next time be more specific with them. EX. "I want his body cut no shorter than (whatever length) inches". Also, take pictures of actual doodles along with instructions to the groomer. I am taking my doodle to get his "look presentable for the family holidays" cut Friday. My groomer did an excellent job last time, but I will still take photos and instructions again just in case she forgets how she cut him last time.

Awww, he's still a cutie. Just look at all those face whiskers. Duffy will feel bad if you kick him out of the Christmas picture. Just put a Santa hat or something on him if you think he looks funny. But it is irritating to tell them exactly what you want, including printouts (which I think had pictures if it's the same thing I saw on this site), and still have it not turn out how you want it.

Halas had a few mats shaved off in early July, and those areas are still very short, even 4 1/2 months later. So I'm thinking it could take it awhile to grow back.
