Labradoodle & Goldendoodle Forum

In the summer of 1982 Steven Spielberg co-produced and directed E.T. the Extra Terrestrial

This modern fairy tale about a 10 year old boy (named Elliot) - who discovers an alien (whom he later named E.T.) in his family’s garden shed, befriends him, hides him, and tries to help him return home - has become a classic movie for kids and a remarkable portrait of childhood.

As Elliott tries to keep the alien under wraps, he discovers that the creature can communicate with him telepathically. Soon they begin to learn from each other, and Elliott begins to experience a psychic connection with the alien.

Here is my E.T...

And here is my Elliot...

By the time "Harley - Darley" arrived, our DD Tiffany had already moved back home (please read CANCER, WATER & GOLDENDOODLES 7/23/12), and was recovering nicely. Treatment was behind her, and Harley brought so much "doodle" joy into her life as she took the recuperation road slowly and cautiously.

Truth be told, she was my mighty advocate in convincing my DH Lee that Golden Doodles were the perfect house pets for humans of all ages!

Tiffany and Harley bonded instantly and played incessantly. There is never a dull nor quiet moment when she is around. Yes, that is her in the crate!

Although I am the “Momma”, when I am not around,Tiffany has always been the “next best thing” in Harley's world (sorry DH). They are so close, it made sense that Harley accompany us on the Susan G. Komen walk...

It’s been a little over four years now, (we are so very grateful the cancer is in remission) and a new chapter in her life has begun - she is moving into her own place! I, (as the “momma”) am honestly “excited” about this momentous occasion. Harley, on the other hand is not...

I am happy for her and proud to say I am without multiple roller coaster emotions during her residential relocation. This is a "good thing", and she is ONLY moving about 45 minutes away. We can and will see each other regularly. I forgot however, to forward that memo to Harley. I failed to pay attention to him as she loaded boxes and bags into her car. I never thought about “Mr. Sensitive's” heightened awareness that something in his world was changing, let alone the reaction that followed.

The evening she left, I misread his mopiness and assumed he was sleepy. I found him in her room while it was still in disarray...

Later that night he fell asleep on a travel pillow he used to play with as a “pup.” This by the way must have gotten lost in her bottomless closet and resurfaced during the move...

At 4 the following morning, he woke me up - I knew what this meant - and sure enough when I let him out - “diarrhea.” We took it easy that entire day - and stayed home. He threw up twice, and continued with his regiment of the “squirts” as I waited for the med’s and his diarrhea diet to kick in. By evening he was feeling a little better, but continued to “pause” when passing by her room.

When I checked in with my DD, she told me SHE wasn’t feeling her best either, and had decided to take a break from unpacking. I thought: “My Elliott has a psychic connection with my alien.”

All of this has happened THIS WEEK! I must remedy this quickly.

I have no bicycle with a basket on top, but I do have a vehicle. Therefore tomorrow I shall load up the car, boys and bags in tow, motor over to her place where we will ALL spend the weekend together! They can play with their new toys (yes she’s got some), eat there out of their new bowls (yup, she’s got those too!) and they can sleep on extra beds that I’m bringing from home.  As the pictures get hung, the nick-knacks arranged, and we get her settled, hopefully they’ll get settled too!

I am so glad that your daughter is in remission.  Harley will probably always consider her as his true heart love.  My daughter was that to one of our dogs.  He loved us, but he adored her.

Cathy we have a similar situation going on at our house.  Oldest DD spent the summer with us while waiting for a teaching position in the fall.  She and Harlow are best buds. Two weeks ago DD moved to her new apartment and Harlow moped about for several days.  Unfortunately for us DD's apartment and school are 10 hours away. :(

A wonderful blog and it does not sound as though Harley will be missing your daughter too much. Beautiful daughter and very cute doodle.

I too am so glad your daughter is well enough to be moving out. She and Harley will get used to the new arrangement with time.

Your daughter is beautiful and I am happy to hear she is in remission.  How exciting for her to be getting her own place.  I am sure Harley will miss her, but hopefully gets to see her a lot. Good luck to her.
