We left NYC late this afternoon..it was a nasty weather day there. Derby's big preoccupation was not to allow me to get out of her sight...I think she knew something was up. My Maltese was never allowed on the bed..DH rules..but if he was out of town I always broke the rules..and this is the G-ds honest truth..she always knew when he was out of town even if he never packed a suitcase as opposed to nites when he came home at a late hr. SO I don't doubt that DerbyDoodle knew travel was imminent .
She followed me everywhere..at one point she glued herself to the floor when DH tried to take her outside to pee.
Once her business got handled we headed toward JFK. I opted to not put her in her Sleepypod carrying case & keep her on my lap...thought she needed some more TLC than car seat security. Just before we arrived @ JFK I popped her in with no reluctance on her part.
We whiz zed thru security & DH & I have a fav place in the JetBlue terminal for sushi. When the food arrived..she started whimpering...and as I went to reach for her kong with treats & pnutbutter inside it...I almost panicked when I realized I had left I back in Brooklyn. I raced thru the Dragon roll b/c since this was only her 2 nd airport trip..I wasn't sure if she would be as good as her first one was.
So now DerbyDoodle is stuck in her Sleepypod perched atop my husbands wheelie..with nothing to keep her happy & busy. I left my husband eating his Shashimi & started walking to the gate..figuring movement would keep her calm & quiet.
We embarked on the plane about 15" after we reached the assigned gate....once on the plane we were on a brand new JetBlue airliner. That was nice, but I believe the under the seat area seemed considerably smaller than the older version. So, for the extra leg room seats..they seemed like just opposite. Needless to say she had to feel cramped.
And of course we were # 13 to take off...after a slight delay & runway change..we are ready to lift off...so, a 2 gr flight became a 4 hr trip
But I'm here to report this dood is on he'll of a traveler. She never uttered one sound during the flight or the landing.
Once out of the terminal a police traffic guard wouldn't let my DerbyDoodle cross the incoming lanes of traffic to get the pup to some grass. She had to control her bladder for almost 7 hrs. amazing!!
Once at home she relived herself immediately.
I'm happy to say through these 2 flights she really earned her wings & the rank of Traveling doodle Extraordinaire!!
I am
So pleased with her ability to be a calm, patient & flexible traveler. Iam very proud of her!!
P.S. last day of our stay in NYC..she started to even enter the elevator without going down on all fours
What a girl!!
