Every evening I give the Maltese and Holly a light snack, Tonight two of the rescue females who have been totally afraid to come near me, came up and took several snacks out of my hand. They have been watching the excitement of Holly and our other Maltese when it is snack time and just decided they wanted part of the fun. Each great journey starts with a single small step.

Another one of the fearful trio of rescue Maltese has been accepting treats from me for several weeks now. I make sure that I have very small treats secreted all over the house so that I can give her a treat whenever she comes up to me. I always have these treats cut up into tiny pieces because it is not the size of the treat but, the frequency that is important. I also want to be able to give Holly and any of out family Maltese treats when the little rescue girl comes up to me. But, she has never let me pick her up. Judy picked her up (she flattens herself on the floor when Judy bends down). Anyway, Judy put her in my lap as we were watching TV and I began stroking the little gal. I suddenly felt her relax and then go to sleep... That felt wonderful, what a great day!

These three females are the ones we rescued from the puppy mill in Oregon with their puppies. They had lived their live in small cramped cages with no human contact. I am perfectly sure that this eight and a half year old dog has never been able to go to sleep in a human's lap while she is being petted. We are slowly bringing these girls around. But, when things happen like they did tonight, it doesn't feel so slow.

Congratulations! Thank you so much for rescueing these dogs and puppies. I also love your website. You are a very talented person and more than that, a caring person, who takes the time to help an unfortunate dog feel like a real canine companion. I thank you, the doodles thank you, and the maltese thank you.

I can appreciate your joy! Our Bindi (a maltese) was a puppy mill rescue. A dear friend of ours went on the raid and brought her (and many others home) that evening. There were 270 dogs rescued in total. We were supposed to foster Bindi....that was 8 years ago...she never left! :) Bindi was 3-4 months old when she was rescued. She and her sister were kept in a rubbermaid container and considered poor quality as they had an underbite. She had never touched ground or had human contact until she was rescued. She was petrified of my husband so we assumed there was a very negative force in her life that was a male. It took many years of gentle coaxing but she is now my husbands hot water bottle and won't leave his side! He can relate completely to your joy Richard. It was a looooooooooong road but even still to this day we see walls crumbling. She is a much beloved family member as yours will be some day for some Blessed family because of your patience. :)
