F. Brogan's first 2 weeks...

Brogan is doing well and settling into life being an indoor dog and getting fed on a regular basis.

Two weeks ago he weighed 52 lbs; on Friday at the vet he weighed in at 56.7 lbs. That is almost 5 pounds in 2 weeks. But he still looks so skinny. You can still see his bony hips, every vertebra and his ribs. Brogan is a talker and leaner. When you scratch him he leans his head into you and groans with pleasure. He loves rough housing with Harlow in the back yard. He is still learning to walk on a leash and is still pretty clueless on sit, but he figured out pretty quick that if he comes when he is called he gets a special liver treat. He is still very tentative around new people and takes longer to warm up to men than women. Brogan loves carrot & sweet potato dog cookies but it took a couple nights before he tried the bedtime bully stick. But now he dashes upstairs with the rest of the pack when he hears “everyone ready for bed?” to hop in his bed for his cookie and bully stick. We had him neutered and micro chipped on Friday and he is a bit tender, but is getting more chipper each day. His coat is still too short to use a brush on his body, so I am using the beagles’ Zoom Groom to get him use to being brushed. You should hear his happy noises when he is being brushed. His digging has decreased a lot. I think that having play mates as well as a fresh layer of wood chips in the pine islands has been a big factor in the decrease in digging. I believe Brogan's ideal forever home would be someone that is looking to add a second big dog to the family.

Thanks Nina - I love hearing about Brogan, and look forward to meeting him (if he doesn't get snapped up!). I'm jealous of the weight that Brogan has put on. I've had Wilbur nearly a month and he's only gained about 3lbs. He's soooo skinny still!

Sounds like things are going great! Hopefully he finds his forever family very soon, but in the meantime I think he sounds pretty content right where he is! Keep up the good work! I realize for a dog 5 lbs in 2 weeks is a good thing .... however, for me, not such a good thing! I think i may have gained 5 lbs today at Easter dinner.
