Labradoodle & Goldendoodle Forum

We go to pick up Dustin (our goldendoodle puppy) tomorrow after I get out of school so tonight will be Fenway's last night as an only doodle. She is a spoiled little princess and gets tons and tons of attention all of the time, but we've really been laying it on thick this week and she's been eating it up. Lee, my DH, is conviced that she is going to pack her bags and leave once she figures out that Dustin is staying for good and not here for just a visit. He thinks she likes being an only dog. I think she likes it too, but I also know how much she misses her buddies after they leave. She's a social girl! I think we're going to grill out tonight if the weather holds and she'll get to come with us and we'll play ball. This is her absolute favorite thing to do, especially when her Daddy hits it really far with his racket! Hopefully we can make it a special night for her, even if it is more for the humans's peace of mind.

We're getting really excited about Dustin, but we're also really nervous. I'm not sure how it's going to go with two. I know it's more work and more money and pretty much more of everything (good things included), but I'm mostly worried about how Fenway will take to him. Although she's super social, she's never had to share us with any other dog for long and she definitely has never had to share the attention before. She also only ever plays with dogs that are bigger than her. We're going to have to supervise that play very closely because she can get really rough. Hopefully all of this worrying is going to be in vain and they'll love each other from the start. Who knows??? I'll probably have my hands full for the next few days, but I'll have to post an up-date soon.

I know what you mean. Lee keeps saying, "Well I think Fenway will probably take off east if you go looking for her, or I think she's already got her bags packed, or Fenway your new owners will be coming to get you soon since you won't be Mommy's favorite any more." It's not true I know I'll still love her just as much and I plan on keeping on with our training, but a part of me worries that maybe I will be so busy with the new puppy that Fenway will suffer a little. I'm going to try my hardest not to let this happen and I plan on doing some fun things with just her so we still have our time, but I know it's going to be hard for a little while. Good luck to both of you with the new puppy! You'll love having a doodle. They're great dogs and I'm sure you won't neglect your little queen! By the way I love the name Wrigley. Y'all must be baseball fans too!

Kelli, your husband and my husband must be related somehow. We have a dachshund who we treat like our child, and she is so spoiled. We will be getting our goldendoodle Wrigley next week, and Marc, my DH, has been laying it on thick! "Rootie's not going to be queen anymore, she doesn't know what's about to hit her"...and on and on and on! I am so worried about Roo's feelings! I don't want her to feel left out or like a throw away. I told Marc that we will just have to be sure to pay as much attention to her as we do to Wrigley. I totally know where you're coming from.

Congrats on the new pup. I think Fenway will adapt very well and try to Mother Dustin. Hannah was the only girl for about 16months, and than came Honey. Although we have my son's American Bulldog, they don't really play that much as Magnum is 5. Hannah is very laid back to start with, but she is very gentle with smaller dogs and pups and took real well to Honey being here. Now they are sister's and miss each other if they are not together. If you can try and sepreate them sometimes, it might be a good idea in case one needs to be away from the other, also when I give treats, since Hannah was here first, she goes first and Honey respects that. Good luck and keep us posted on Fenway and Dustin..looking forward to seeing some pics also.

I'll be sure to post some of those. I have a feeling I'll be taking lots of pictures like I normally do. Before I came to DK I thought I was the only one who took that many pictures of their dog.

How exciting Kelli!! Lots of fun in store. I think as long as you continue to take her for some one-to-one time (training or otherwise) and don't let her push her way for attention she really won't feel 'left out' at all. Can't wait to see first pics of the new siblings :)
