Last week at Spuds first vet appointment, I learned he had an ear infection. WHAT!!!! Basically, A week ago, I gave Spuds a bath, cleaned his ears with ear wash, and used the blow dryer to dry them, however, I should have bought the powder and removed the hair in the ears before I trapped all of that water in the ear from all of the hair. SIGH.
He is looking very fluffy, but I didn't want to groom him until he had been seen by the vet and had his next set of shots.
The vet said as long as I keep his grooming schedule where they remove the hair from his ears, this ear problem will not be an issue. I am not convinced. We had a Cocker Spaniel a long time ago that battled ear infection after ear infection. I am concerned. I am looking for suggestions about good remedies or strategies to keeping those ears dry.
In the mean time, Spuds is away for the day for grooming. My training has to wait until tomorrow. Our family's other two dogs are doing the happy dance, they are not exactly getting along yet with the new puppy. I guess that discussion will have to wait for a new posting in my blog "6 pound dogs meet 12 pound golden doodle puppy."

Simple solution is to keep an ear drying/cleansing solution on hand. I use this after Stanlee has gone swimming or has been playing in the sprinkler. Works like a charm AND I have his ears plucked, as well, per my vet. (He has very hairly old man ears.....bleck!)
Thanks Willow for the info, I looked up Thorn it, but looks like it's not available in US in powder form. I did find a wet ear solution that has boric acid, the same ingredient in Thorn it, that I may be ordering tonight after the groomer tells me if the ear infection is getting better. Fingers crossed that his ears look better.
Try "Thorn-it" (or Thorn it) on DK search and see what you think . We were able to stop Willow's ear infection with it. She came from breeder with yeast infection, and she had to be on prednisone, anti-fungal, etc. off and on for 1.5 years until we learned about Thorn it. She's never had another infection in her ears since then.
