Labradoodle & Goldendoodle Forum
I think the title sums up the situation. Our family had 2 small Yorkies then my youngest son said he was ready for a dog of his own. We thought about another Yorkie, because allergies are such a huge issue. However........
The opportunity to get a mini golden doodle puppy came at the same time. I researched the breed, it looked like the perfect opportunity. So, what I have now is a very active 12 pound puppy, who wants to play, nip, swipe, and pounce on two very small laid back yorkies. The yorkies have free range of the house except when we are not home they are in the laundry room. The puppy is not stable enough to have free range of the house unless the yorkies are in a room with a closed door, or I have the puppy controlled by a leash.
The puppy chases and pounces on the yorkies. The yorkies growl at the puppy when he pounces on them, but it has no affect on the puppy. We had the puppy for about 3 weeks now, I am hoping as the puppy gets older and the training becomes more effective things will get better.
I have been making sure Spuds get enough exercise and I walk him daily to get his puppy energy out. When do puppies start to settle into the family and calm down??????? Soon I hope.

I really don't have any advice, but just wanted to say to be patient. Maybe they will all come to get used to and love one another soon! I'm glad you have two laid back Yorkies. The Yorkies I've met before were not laid back. Hopefully, you'll end up with a laid back doodle as well! Have fun with all your adorable doggies!
It took Cooper 2 years to "calm down" but only 1 day to learn the the cats were alpha above here (so she respected them and was gentle to them). This was very important as Cooper is now 70lbs and the cats are 8-15lbs. It might be harder to do with dogs rather than cats, because cats really dont care about "pack order" so they dont act dominant
The bad news is that you've got quite a while before the puppy actually "calms down" based on my experience. The good news is that by giving him lots of exercise and controlled play time you're helping to burn off the "puppy energy" in a really positive way. He's just a baby beginning to explore his world...he'll learn the boundaries as you train him.
You are doing a good job, exercising, leashing and containing the puppy... all important. It seems like it takes forever but it will get better. Hang in there.
Taquito the chihuahua hated Peri (mini doodle) for the first few weeks. He left poop presents around everywhere to portray his disgust :) They are best friends now...... It took a few weeks though, be patient. The puppy will calm down - keep training. We definitely had Peri in the crate when she got wild, on a leash, etc....
