We are lucky in that we don't have a flea problem. However, we have just received four rescue puppies several months old that were absolutely crawling with fleas. Of course we will use Frontline and also Capstar pills.
However, for immediate control using flea spray or flea soap is problematic when intending to use Frontline.
We were advised by a pet supply store owner (who is also a rescue dog person) that she initially bathes her rescue dogs in a solution of Blue Dawn dish wash soap, diluting the Dawn in water first and not placing the concentrate on the dog.
Low-and-behold, the Dawn killed the fleas. It's easy to tell with white dogs. That along with the Capstar and the Frontline should take care of any fleas.
I sprayed the Vari-kennel that I brought the pups home in with Odoban which is a disinfectant I purchase at Home Depot in gallon size. Oboban will kill anything including viruses (HIV included), bacteria along with worms and fleas on contact. It doesn't advertise itself to kill fleas or worms but, we have seen its effect when sprayed on those critters.

I know you post about Odoban often Richard and I often reply with a dreaded UGH!
That stuff, not only kills fleas, it did me in near death also. Nasty stuff but hey.... I get it works for some
Thanks for this information.
Thanks for this "heads up"!
I am so thankful we have never had fleas. It sounds like you have a handle of it. I have heard that Dawn diluted a you described can do the trick. In Seattle, I used frontline plus an occasionally Capstar when we were doing a lot of hiking. Thanks for sharing the info Richard.
