Mike and I started walking about three miles each morning with our dog, Gordon. If you have a dog, you know that if you do something twice in a row, you’re in a pattern. If you have a dog, don’t start something
with the dog if you don’t plan on doing it for the rest of your life at
exactly the same time of day and in exactly the same way.

The first few mornings were fine. We were into our new exercise routine. We even looked forward to it. But after a few days, our joints and muscles started to get a little tired, and we thought maybe we
should take a day off to rest.

The day we decided to take a break from walking, I woke up in the morning and sat at my desk. About the time we would usually be getting ready for our walk, I heard a rustling noise behind me. I turned around
and saw this:

Ignore him, I thought. I turned back and tried to go back to work, hoping he would go away. That’s when I heard the annoyed little grunt. I turned to see from where it came.

I turn around and try to go back to work. The back of my neck starts to feel hot. I think Gordon is actually staring lasers into the base of my skull. I hear a little foot stomp, coupled with yet another grunt. I
ignore it.

It gets quiet. Thinking Gordon must have given up and lay down, I turn to sneak a peek.

I sigh. I know I am no match for his dog-will. I decide to give in and go for the damn walk. Glowering at him, my hips already aching, I ask:

Do you want to go for a walk?

What’s that Mommy? A walk? What a novel idea. Why yes, I would like to go to a walk. Thank you for thinking of that, I never would have come up with it on my own.

It has been 12 straight days of walking. Mike and I are tired. But what can you do with that face staring beams of pure guilt straight into your soul? I can only pray for rain.

Ohhhhh...that beam 'o guilt! And whatever you do, don't pick up a leash, even to move it from one place to another. Such joy! Such beaming! So hard to explain that you were just housecleaning.

Gordon was nearly black when we brought him home as a puppy - he's a fader -- he gets more grayish every year - who knows what he'll be in the end!

I LOVE this story. You go Gordon. I can SO identify with this. I was subjected to th'e same exact thing with my last two labradors. I was a walking slave and some of my best buds were Bruno's mom, Taylor and Brandy's mom, etc. I walked in snow, rain, below zero temp for over 20 yrs. I am going in for my 2nd rotator cuff surgery (different arm) and have had a plantarfasciaectomy (feet) ALL from walking dogs. Ahh, I thought. A mini ALD, only 9lbs. I still go to the same darned park, only now with a pee wee dog!!!! And my feet kill me every time!!

Well, it sounds like the little Walk Natzi is really a fair weather boy! Didn't want to go out in the rain huh? Afraid his curls might drop!! ha ha Empty water bottles and such are fantastic toys for Doodles that need to let off a little steam. At least you got one day of rest if it was raining.

I love this blog...and it's so true. They are experts at "guilting us" into doing what they want...when they want.

It is RAINING!!! Finally a day off for me. He won't even go out to go to the bathroom, let alone go on a walk... but he did angrily throw around an empty gatorade bottle for about 15 minutes to show his displeasure.

I am still laughing after reading your post. I have a doodle that sits by the door when she thinks it is time to go out and stares too. I love the name Gordon and there is no way you can ignore that adorable face.
