Good grief! When does the chewing stop?

These days I don’t dare leave Harlow out of my sight; otherwise she finds something to chew on. Besides more than a few shoes, socks, and other objects over the last few weeks; today she destroyed Sherlock’s doggie bed. I came home to find dog bed stuffing strewn all over the kitchen. Poor Sher was laying forlornly on what was left of his doggie bed cover. Looks like I will be doing some sewing this weekend.

My dogs have managed to chew pieces off almost anything. With both bones and cow hooves I've had problems with Luca vomiting up sharp pieces so that's it for them. Nyla bone also history. Some of these things can be really dangerous (see Danger Group). I am going to try the elk antlers.

Winston is a sock eater, so I'm very careful. He has had one surgery at 4 months and an almost surgery at 8. He is fairly good with his toys, but paper, anything left in the sink, rug pads, plastic containers, and the latest was my travel coffee mug gone.
I don't think chewing things will ever go away, they may just get better and not happen as often. Freya, my Rottweiler will do a toy in in seconds. The ones that say tough, might last a few days (except kongs). She can't have anything with stuffing. My late Rottie, Moe never eat any toy, if Freya hadn't taken some of his stuff toys he would have had everyone I every gave him. They were his babies. In fact I had a painting done of him with his toys before he died.

I don't know why Tucker doesn't destroy the tennis balls Kevin- it amazes me. I could fill this page with what he did chew up- no kidding. Maybe because playing ball is his favorite thing to do? Who knows what they are thinking!

Ok- I tried a carrot - Tucker chewed it gleefully! Now I have shreded carrot covering my kitchen floor he didn't eat one piece. Getting out the mop! What we do for love huh?

That's impressive Pat, a dog that doesn't destroy tennis balls! Skineez are definitely not indestructible, but they are fun, when Penny is squeaking both squeakers at the same time, she sounds like she's signaling the mother ship.

The best industructable toys that I have found are Zogoflex, Nylabones, kongs and tennis balls. Problem I found is if they are industructable Tucker really dos not like them unless we play fetch. ( he loves the ball and does not destroy it!) The Nylabone he does chew on once in a while. Haven't tried the Skineezee- they look like my Tucker would tear them apart- but I'll give it a try Tucker tears apart anything he can get hold of. We don't leave things around. I have no pillows on my sofa anymore and all pillows on the bed must be tucked in tightly with the comforter or he'll get them too.

Yes we have the Skinnnneeeezzzz as well and have had them for many years as they are the only toys the boys don't destroy immediately. I have to replace them about every other year. The boys were chewing terrors when they were puppies, but a night chew bone has kept the chewing at bay for 8+ years. Harlow gets her nightly chewie as well. She has never bothered the dog beds before and had grown very dependable outside her crate when we are away. I am begining to suspect that the bed may have been the victim of a tug-o-war.

Its unanimous...Phoebe is a power chewer as well and she just turned 10 months old so it looks like we have a long way to go! There is alsmost no toy she cannot destroy. She has a love/hate relationship with my 'soon to be replaced' (well, not that soon) new kitchen set. She will lose interest for a week or so and then, POW, right back at those chairs again. We crate her constantly, in fact, the crate should have a revolving door between trips in/out for chewing and nipping! We try to keep everything out of her reach, exercise her to the point of exhaustion daily and give her plenty of appropriate chew toys but boy, this little girl loves to chew!
