Yesterday I took Harlow to the vet for her vacs, then past the cleaners to pick up laundry and finally past the bank. She loved greeting everyone as well as getting cookies from cleaners and bank staff, but she wasn't real happy about the car ride. She drooled so much that her chin, front legs and the towel she was sitting on were soaked. We will be doing short car rides every day so she can get use to them.

My Nemo is 1.5 years old, still drools a LOT on car rides. We almost always take him for fun things - hikes, dog beach, dog park, etc. But he still won't get into the car unless we put him in. We've had him almost three months, and when we adopted him the rescue group told us he gets 'car sick'. So far he hasn't thrown up, but we try not to feed him in the am when we're going somewhere. He started to get better about getting in the car (not putting the brakes on at the front door) but now he seems to be regressing a bit. The other day after two car trips in one day, he refused to come out of his kennel for a walk in the park! And he loves his walks!

Does anyone have any suggestions? Should we take him for more frequent short trips? Or not go in the car as often? He seems a lot better when he can sit in the front seat by me when I'm driving.

We have the same problem here.....Comiskey loves the car rides...Beemer drools and then throws up.....so we were talking one day...and we figured out that in the beginning Comiskey always sat in my lap up front....got very used to being able to see everything and stick her head out the window...when Beemer came along we decided that seatbelts were the way to go....so Beemer immediately was in the back with Comiskey and they were both in seatbelts....(thinking we would not have to break any bad habits later)....Comiskey loved having the window open and the freedom to lay down when she wanted.....dah!....Beemer never got the advantage of getting used to the car with the same attention we paid Comiskey.....so up front he came....no more drool...no more throwing up....so we will try that for a while and then delegate him to the back seat later....all this after I purchased expensive medication to give him for long trips....may never need it....

Harlow is 4 1/2 months. I have to admit she blew too. :") She was kind enough to give enough warning that I was able to grab an old work shirt from the back seat before she 'decorated' my gear shift. I have 2 old beagles as well. Baxter loves to ride, but he is very hard on the ears on the go to trip as he whines and howls the whole. He is nice and quite on the return trip.

Thanks for the words of encouragement on out growing the drool.

It would be totally cool if it is a puppy thing and I can look forward to Fenway out-growing it!

How old is Harlow? My Kona drooled and threw up for at least a year when we did car rides for longer than 20 minutes or so. The drooling always came before she blew, and she always got as close as she could to me before it happened LOL She is almost 2 yo now and she does not have this problem anymore. I heard from a few people that it clears up with adulthood as they fully develop. It seems to be an inner ear thing.......

Hope Harlows clears up quickly for you.

Yankee was just like that too in the car, all drooly. He still doesn't love it but he doesn't want to be left at home. He also knows he gets to the dog park by car so he gets in, sits nervously in the front seat and doesn't move.

Yeah....Fenway isn't too sure about car rides either. Shiloh loves them....but I can't leave him in there alone even for 5 minutes....he barks and barks and barks....not like people who have dogs that just sit there and look friendly while their mom runs inside to pay for gas or something!
