Since he's de-legged and decapitated the last of two rubber pigs (after 2 years so that's still pretty good!) and his beloved little Wal Mart latex squeaker is circling the drain (intact but getting a bit grimy and thin)...I thought it was time for Rosco to have a brand new noisy toy.
So on Sunday I took him on a mommy-doggy trip to PetCo so we could pick out just the right one. I heeled Rosco into the store and down the toy aisle and had him sit stay while I examined the options, giving each one a squeeze to hear it's sound..after much deliberation I settled on this guy.
The sound wasn't high pitched and seemed like a good fit, one he wouldn't try to crunch through or demolish for a long time to come.
As Rosco waited patiently, I tossed it to him and he craned his neck, didn't break his stay, but also didn't catch it. It fell next to him and he sniffed it joyfully. He was VERY excited about this new noisemaker!
After we paid for it...we headed to a local college athletic field for some fetch.
OMG...he fell in LOVE with this thing...
BUT...as he mouthed and pawed and squashed it, I realized something unsettling...
It sounded like a GIGGLING/CRYING BABY!!!
Now, the chances that Rosco would confuse a baby with a squeaky toy based solely on my
perception that it sounds like a baby are slim... but STILL.what if!?
So, I gave it to a friend of mine for her dog. But first I put it in a box in our carport...a carport that is visible to the dogs only from a set of stairs leading up to an apartment above our garage. Rosco SAW me put it there and he and Thule (Rosco MORE than Thule) have been climbing up there staring obsessively at what no longer exists.
And what's hilarious is that, yesterday, once I realized he was OCD'ing over this, I leashed him up and took him AND the squeaker to my car and had him WATCH me put it in
the car.
Doesn't matter. He STILL thinks it's in the carport (which is not a location my car has ever been).
Poooooooooooor poooooooooooor Rosco. Hoping beyond all hope.
NOW I must find him a replacement that sounds a bit less human.
