I met a family yesterday whose back yard backed onto a park we frequent.  The mother peeked over the fence and asked if Gavin would be interested in playing with her 1 year old Newfoundland dog.  Ahhhh, yaaaa!  So she opened her gate and the two ran back and forth between their yard and the park.  Her beautiful pup was chasing Gavin who was enjoying being in the lead for a change.  Gavin dashed into the back yard, with Marley the Newf hot on his tail.  Gavin decided to take a short cut across the yard to put more distance between himself and Marley.  However, Gavin mistakenly thought that the solar blanket floating on top of the inground swimming pool was solid ground.  He went across full speed and made it half way before the blanket gave way and into the water he went.  Turns out he can swim a bit better than he has been letting on!  The husband with lightening quick speed leaned out to the end of the diving board and grabbed Gavin with both hands by the scruff lifting all 67lbs of him to safety.  Gavin, totally nonplussed shook himself and resumed the game.  This time in the park!

Yeah, and once they become a swimmer, I learned from my labs, WATCH OUT.  They will swim with you, on you, over you.  We had one that even crawled on inner tubes w. us.  And the jumping off the pier shows we got.  Unbelievable.  Watch out for claws!!!  Goooo Gavin

I love a good ole belly laugh and I'm having one now.  Did he sink slowly like a big ship.  He must really be something not be be traumatized.  Man, the hubby was STRONG.

Poor Gavin.  Good thing the husband came to the rescue or else you would've have to jump in for the rescue. At least he didn't let the quick bath ruin his play time.

Wow, that Gavin gets around :) This sure doesn't happen every day. Glad he had fun!

LOL, such fun play sessions. Sneaky boy for hiding his swimming abilities. :-)

Yes, F. I did have a momment of panic.  The husband reacted soo quickly that I did not really have time to get too worried.  Definitely a lesson to be learned here for those with pools.

Sounds exciting. Glad someone could pull Gavin out. I'd worry he could get caught under the solar blanket.

Whoa! That sounds like an exciting morning for Gavin! Glad he has found a friend to play with. Maybe someday you'll be invited to swim, too.
