Holly barks at strangers entering our property; until we let her know that the strangers are welcome. However, her bark has always just been sort of a warning. It is simply a "Here I am and this is my house!" bark. Enough to warn off strangers but, certainly not ferocious.

Last night after midnight, Holly perceived something or someone on or near our property and she reacted quite differently. Her bark was not a warning but, an "I want to tear your head off!" bark; combined with a snarl that I didn't think Holly was capable of. Wow... was I surprised! She jumped out of bed and charged towards the window. Holly, usually backs off when barking, NOT LAST NIGHT!

I don't know what caused this reaction. Most likely it was a coyote or two at our fence line. If it was a human prowler, he would have quickly vacated the area. There is absolutely no way that any sane person would challenge the dog behind that ferocious bark...

Although it scared the heck out of us, but we appreciated that Holly was reacting to ensure the safety of her family!

Good girl Holly!! Sounds like my Lilly, someone would be out of their mind to break in the house after hearing her bark. ;-)
