How is a blog different than a forum discussion

I just discovered a whole new room in the doodle kisses house! A blog post! I found it by following Adina's email about the So CA get together at Bev's. Sound like you had a great time. Now that I have found this room; to prevent a faux pas, please describe to me how a blog is different than a forum discussion?SmileyCentral.com

Thanks - I get it now. Sort of like " Captain's Log Star Date 2517". Yes, Adina of course you may post my question in the "How to". I should have put it there now, if I knew how to move it.

Karen answered it excellently.
Think of a blog as a diary or journal--blog is a word that stems from "web log."

Another feature of blogs is that you can control who sees your blog (friends, vs just you, vs all members) and you can control comments so that comments don't display until you approve them. You can also write one in advance to post at a later date.

Maryann, may I respost your question in the forum as a question in our "How To" category? I think other members would benefit from the answer as well.

To me, a blog post is something you write to tell a story, share an experience, or give information. It doesn't lend itself to asking a question where you are looking for answers, debates, opinions, etc., from others. The order of the response posts will be the opposite of the way they are in the forum discussions...the oldest ones will be at the bottom, the newest on top. (Since this is the first response, it will be at the bottom of all the responses you get.) Nobody can reply to anyone else's post, they can just leave a comment. It doesn't lend itself to discussion or debate. You can't edit your responses to a blog as you can in a discussion, you can only delete them. And it is possible to post links in blogs, but it takes a little bit of know-how. So blogs are good for telling about something cute your puppy did, say, or showing pictures, where people can respond with comments like "That's so cute", "I'm sorry to hear that", or tell their own experiences, etc. But if you need advice or want to get a lively debate going, a forum discussion is better for that.
