Toby was one this month. He has been house trained for quite some time. And yet - occasionally he pees on the rec room carpet. Stupid dog. Why? I have no idea. There is no rhyme or reason - no pattern - no nothing. It's just once in a while. He may have been outside recently even. It is just so darn frustrating. I'm almost at the point where he is going to be banned. That would be a shame, as we are currently re-doing the basement, and will do most of our t.v. watching down there. But the re-do will include new carpet, which I am not willing to sacrifice to Toby's bladder. Thankfully we bought a carpet cleaner, and can spot clean quickly, but still. Any thoughts would be welcome, although I don't think there's a good answer for this. "sigh"

Make sure you put some Natures miracle on the concrete under where he normally pees to get any scent out of the concrete or he may continue to pee there. Fozzy did the same thing about a week ago. It had been at least a month since the last time, (and we had just come home from a walk). He's done it only twice since he was 6 month old. He is now nine months.....

I guess tearing the carpet out will be a good idea, as he will always smell that he once urinated there. It would interest me if it will stop once the carpet is out.

No answers, but I know someone who swears by her Spot Bot for such things. Just put it over the spot and let it go and it seems to work really well for her and she has 10 dogs at her house at any given time.

Yes, he's been neutered since he was six months old. We are in the process of tearing the carpet out - maybe then he'll stop? I am on the verge of banning him from the basement, which would be a real shame.

is he neutered already? If yes, how old was he then? Seems to me like a marking issue.

I know - the tiny fluff ball is now I giant, rather shaved down, black dog. :) We are looking at flooring options for the basement - maybe paint the floor (decoratively, of course), or stamped concrete? Something that would be easy to clean up....

Oh, and WOW - he's a year old already??? I can't believe it! What happened to that tiny ball of black fluff I used to see John walking on those winter evenings?!!
