I'm meeting my new puppy for the first time on Monday!

Finally! I am going to get to meet my puppy, not just see his adorable self in a video or photo sent by the breeder. And I'm nervous - like blind date nervous! He will be 4 weeks old this Tuesday and I am driving 3 hours up to the breeders home for my first 'face to muzzle". Typically I wouldn't be meeting him in person (dog?) this early but I am traveling to Europe and will be gone for a bit so I need to do this before I leave.

Need to do it for me because I'm one of those crazy people that need to "feel the bond". Is anyone else like this? I want this puppy to feel like he is meant to be mine and that he is picking me too! Am I crazy?

If all goes well the next time I post, my picture will be replaced by my puppy's photo and his name will be next to mine - wish me luck!!!!!

I look forward to seeing pictures, and I'm excited for you! My husband and I drove from Texas to Wisconsin to pick up our pup 3 weeks ago. Everybody thought we were nuts, lol! Kirby is everything I wanted and more! Have a safe trip, and do try to get some sleep ;)

Rooney's name - after Mickey Rooney. Our first dog was the most beautiful yellow lab named Crosbey - after Bing. Then we got Bogart, a black lab - then we rescued a cat and yep his name is Humphrey. Crosbey and Bogart are now romping in dog heaven, Humphrey is 9 now. And because he was was raised by our lab - he thinks he is a dog. He loved Bogart. Our breeder is going to have Roo spend tons of time with her cat so that he knows what they are. I hope that Humphrey and Rooney can become buddies.

Thanks for the kind words - I am just so excited - like a little kid on the 1st day of school. We have to be on the road by 7:00 a.m. so I have my clothes laid out! My digital & flip cameras are packed, along with some Norman Love chocolate for my chocolate loving breeder, Rooney's snuggle puppy for when he starts his crate training. IF this is my puppy (I hope I hope) I'll post pictures tomorrow evening!

Major change in plans! Dh was really really wanting to come with me to meet Rooney - but Mondays he flys back to NYC. Well, our dear, sweet, kind, breeder was willing to let us change our appointment to TOMORROW - SUNDAY! OH MY GOODNESS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I'll be letting you all know tomorrow night how it goes.

Talking about spending money - yikes, but here is my next big purchase. It is a dog cart that attaches to the back of your bike. I bike every day and this way Rooney can come along. There are two brands that I'm looking at - Houndabout and DoggyRide. Does anyone have one of these or know of someone who does? I live in a huge golf development that was designed for outdoor activities - we have paved bike/walking paths through the beautiful FL marshes. We also have our own private dog park that has wonderful dog playground equipment.

Such an exciting time. I know what you mean about the buying stuff. When your kids are babies and you go shopping you gravitate to the baby section, I bet now most of us gravitate to the doggie section, I know I do.
