Today Stuart ran his first 8k race, 4.97 miles. Stuart has been running with his dad because he is like the energizer bunny - we can't wear him out. Out of 150 runners he was the only dog! Of course everyone thought he was totally awesome and he got lots of cheering and attention. He even went to the after run breakfast and has some eggs, bacon and sausage.…

Dear Fudge & Vern, this is Rooney and boy do I have a bone to pick with you. I have come to believe that your mom is a very bad influence on my mom. It was bad enough that those two are taking a cruise while leaving us doods home - carousing about, having adventures and probably some frozen cocktails, but then your parents had to go get you a boat, and trust me - even though I HATE water, I was happy for you guys, cute pictures,…

Most of you know Stuart's story - born in a puppy mill - how we adopted him from a rescue organization in Atlanta, how sick he was when we got him at 8 weeks. Oh the stories I told about the Coccidia & Giardia - with the poop catching paper plates and rubber gloves. I shudder to think back to the days when Stuart's body emanated an odor so repulsive to me that I cried, thinking I had made a mistake. (We continue…

Or so we think - seems there was a little confusion as to the actual date from the rescue but we believe it is April 5th. Dh, Rooney, Stuart and I will spend his b-day taking a road trip up to Marietta to dd's house for the Easter weekend and of course while there we are meeting up with Stuart's full…

Like any parents we have to watch as our baby doods grow out of puppyhood and become big doods. Stuart at 9 months and 65 lbs is no longer a baby. Now to my alarm he has a stalker girlfriend. A new family has moved into the neighborhood and they have started coming to "big" dog time, they give "big dog" a whole new meaning!! It didn't take their Great Dane long to lay claim to my baby Stuart. She is obsessed with him and although she plays rough and I had to…

DH finally got home last night and it had been almost 2 weeks since we had seen him. The doods went crazy - all tail wagging and bringing him their toys as a welcome. I had warned dh that Stuart had totally matured from a puppy look and that he no longer even slept on our bed. So this morning on our 3 mile jaunt through the neighborhood and marsh - dh says "Stuart looks like a real rag a muffin". …

You know you've been off of DK for a while when you start getting emails from people asking "where are you", "are you and the doods O.K.". It gives me comfort to know that some of you realized we had gone MIA - and might have notified the authorities so that I was not left here molding on the floor - lol. I've missed SO much on here - all the funny blogs, posts, pics and videos. I totally missed the whole Snap contest this time around - not that I'm funny but I always try to give it a…

Stuart has been going for his long walks using his new Easy Walker harness for about a week and he seems to have adjusted to it nicely. He does walk pretty well just using a collar but when excited will pull so at our trainers suggestion we were using the harness. Because we didn't get our 3 miles in this morning - I'm waiting for a yard company - I left the harness on thinking that we'll finish our walk it a little bit. Bye bye Easy Walker - someone - I'm guessing the happy looking cream…

Where have I gone so wrong? I feel like a total failure at this dog training stuff. Stuart is out of control at the moment and despite my best efforts seems to be getting worse. I want need Stuart to not jump into the pool whenever the mood strikes him, it needs to be invitation only as he picks the absolute worst time to drive in. He goes berserk whenever he sees…

************Yep - sounds like we are lucking out here! Saying prayers for the other side of the state and those in the Carolinas!!!!
Roon E. Doodle reporting in here from Fort Myers, FL or Hurricane central according to my crazy cautious momma. You see there is a hurricane heading this way - or maybe that a way - or any ol way but it is a hurricane. This will be our very 1st hurricane so momma is kinda getting weird. The…

One year ago today as I stepped off a plane in NYC - my breeder called to say that she had delivered 3 out of 5 puppies and so far there was no male. She said she'd call me back shortly and let me know if my…

I believe that Rooney's shock setting was too high. I had dh set it down from a 2 to a 1. Then I held it and walked out to be shocked. It did not hurt at all but it did get my attention. I was fearful of feeling it and wouldn't want to feel it at a 2 which is what Rooney got yesterday. So we left Stuart's at a two and Rooney's is now at a one. Stuart is doing well and seems relaxed outdoors - Rooney remains fearful but is trying - this may take more time. He'll never go through the…

Hangin with my brother! As Stuart's adoption fades into history, life at our house is finally getting to feel normal, well normal for us. I can hardly remember those quiet, boring days before Stuart came - now the house is full of rambunctious dog play! Our open floor plan, with all of these tile floors provides lots of entertainment for all of us as the dogs…

Stuart was at the vet's today for his last set of shots and he weighed 21.1 pds (14.5 weeks)!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! My gosh - Rooney only weighs 21.5 and he is 11 months. In 5.5 weeks Stuart went from 6.9 to 21.1 - wow that Orijen & Primal is dangerous - lol. So is this where I double his weight and add 5 or 10 pds? That would make him around 42-52 pds as an adult. Yep - I could handle that.
Taken from our balcony - sun setting over…

10. That "Rescue" doesn't mean cheap. Between a very high adoption fee and his vet bills - we have $1,000 dollar puppy with no known medical history. Never thought I'd say it but I'm getting insurance on this little guy.
9. That puppy mills are very evil…

but if the shoe fits - Rooney is a traitor. My velcro puppy. How can this be? Rooney and I had gone to the airport to pick up my daughter who is here for the holiday. Roo is always a wagging machine when dh comes home from NYC but what he proceeded to do when dd got in the puppy hauler - OMG! He wasn't just wagging, he was shaking from head to tail while trying to wag - I've never seen him do anything like that! He was trying to climb out of his car seat and having a total melt down. …
