Building Riley a couple of jump hurdles for agility. Had to go into Mollala today to pick up some pieces that just are not stocked locally. I miss timed our adventure, and was 15 min late to our half hour class. Today, was the introduction to the teeter board. I knew this would be a situation for him. He is sooo darn careful and cautious of everything he does. Also did the table, he is good at that as we have done similar at home.

He is so funny, when I let him out of his overnight crate in the morning to do his thing out in the backyard; he steps out about two feet and stops and survey's the situation. I mean ( he looks at everything ), then when he thinks all is right he will venture out and do his thing. I mean it is not like he has ever gotten mauled by a predator or anything. The only time I have ever seen him charge out of the house is when a cat fell asleep on one of our lawn chairs.

Guinness loves agility, but the teeter is his biggest challenge. He gets to the middle and as soon as it starts to move he bails. Now he's figured out exactly where the teeter will start to move and jumps right before he gets there. Even the best of treats won't get him past that spot. Right now we're just rewarding him for willingly getting on the teeter and moving up toward the middle. Then the trainer and I stand on either side and guide him across giving treats the whole time. If you search under Agility Doodles group you'll find some great input on the teeter.

She just had him to try and learn the finish. She blocked the teeter so it would only move about an 1/8 of an inch. Would make him get up on the board from the side, after blocking escape with her legs. Then made him sit on incline until released.

Lucy does the very same thing! (Not a lot of fun when it is zero out, for me anyway). Sophie on the other hand sums up the area in 2 seconds and charges like a crazy dog if anything new is in the yard! Did you ever get him to do the teeter board. I'm a little surprised they did that so early on in classes because I would think that would probably be one of the bigger challenges in teaching agility!
