I have been suffering from this for many years now, from the time I get up until I go to bed I am doing something but never seem to accomplish anything. Here is a description of my typical day. I know it sounds funny but this really is me.

Age Activated Attention Deficit Disorder

KNOW THE SYMPTOMS - PLEASE READ!

Thank goodness there's a name for this disorder.

Somehow I feel better,even though I have it.

Recently, I was diagnosed with A.A.A.D.D. - Age Activated Attention Deficit Disorder.

This is how it manifests:

I decide to water my garden. As I turn on the hose in the driveway, I look over at my car and decide it needs washing.

As I start toward the garage,
I notice mail on the porch table that I brought up from the mail box earlier.

I decide to go through the mail before I wash the car.

I lay my car keys on the table,
put the junk mail in the garbage can under the table, and notice that the can is full.

So, I decide to put the bills back on the table and take out the garbage first.

But then I think, since I'm going to be near the mailbox when I take out the garbage anyway,
I may as well pay the bills first.

I take my cheque book off the table, and see that there is only one cheque left.

My extra cheques are in my desk in the study, so I go in side the house to my desk where
I find the can of Diet Pepsi I'd been drinking.

I'm going to look for my cheques, but first I need to push the Diet Pepsi aside so that I don't accidentally knock it over.

The Diet Pepsi is getting warm, and I decide to put it in the refrigerator to keep it cold.

As I head toward the kitchen with the Diet Pepsi, a vase of flowers on the counter catches my eye - they need water.

I put the Diet Pepsi on the counter and discover my reading glasses that I've been searching for all morning.

I decide I better put them back on my desk, but first I'm going to water the flowers.

I set the glasses back down on the counter,
fill a container with water and suddenly spot the TV remote.
Someone left it on the kitchen table.

I realize that tonight when we go to watch TV, I'll be looking for the remote, but I won't remember that it's on the kitchen table, so I decide to put it back in the den where it belongs,
but first I'll water the flowers.

I pour some water in the flowers, but quite a bit of it spills on the floor.

So, I set the remote back on the table, get some towels and wipe up the spill.

Then, I head down the hall trying to remember what I was planning to do.

At the end of the day:
the car isn't washed;
the bills aren't paid;
there is a warm can of Diet Pepsi sitting on the counter;
the flowers don't have enough water;
there is still only 1 cheque in my cheque book;
I can't find the remote;
I can't find my glasses;
and I don't remember what I did with the car keys.

Then, when I try to figure out why nothing got done today,
I'm really baffled because I know I was busy all damn day, and I'm really tired.
I realize this is a serious problem, and I'll try to get some help for it, but first I'll check my e-mail....

Don't laugh - if this isn't you yet, your day is coming...

Oh not laughing but am smiling....this is me, has been for years. I just found my very expensive phone (that has been MIA for 1 month) in my underwear drawer yesterday. I would have called it and found it if I had remembered I didn't have it but by the time I realized I didn't have it (2 days later) the phone was dead and wouldn't ring. WTD?

Oh my gosh!  That is so me.  I used to be so focused and efficient.  Now if I empty the dishwasher - completely that is - that is a good day.  Roo takes total advantage of this as he is forever bringing me his bone to throw while I am ambling between tasks.  Of course I have to go outside to throw it and then I notice,,,,,,, well you know.  Also I am going to use F's method of adding things I actually did to the list, so I can cross them off, that is if I can find the list.  Oh, and then a pencil.  Wait, I'll need my glasses - sure Roo let's play bone.

You made me LOL - The good thing is we are in the midst of a "minor" kitchen redo and it is taking forever, but I don't even care.  I figure the guys delivering the refrigerator are just having a day like mine, it will get here sometime. Meanwhile the walls the tile was torn off of are still shedding plaster so it doesn't make much sense to clean the floor too thoroughly.  AAADD You gotta' love it.

Yup!!!  All you youngsters out there have such fun in store for you when you reach your "golden" years.

Yes, I am here but I have been practicing for years. You see, my youngest son in ADHD and this is how much of our life has been. (He will be 21 on Saturday.) BTW Donna, this is such a wonderful description.
On Saturdays, Murphy will first be standing at the door with his leash but, by the time I finally get it all together, he is usually asleep by the door.

I'd make a list but the I'd forget where I put it. I will soon be at the point where I can hide my own easter eggs and still have fun trying to find them. :>)

Oh, "F", I LOVE that!  I need to start adding things like DK to my list....that way I'll feel like I accomplished so much by the end of the day.

I loved this post!  I am a later in life mom who now has four children ages 14 down to 7...throw in some peri-menopause and a husband out of work for 13,5 months and, if I did not have my list (Jane, I am so OCD on a good day anyway :) ) I  would spend my day spiraling in the center of my house with a dazed look on my face, accomplishing nothing.  I have it so bad some days, I cannot even keep my children's names straight and I cannot even begin to tell you how many times I have called my daughter Phoebe!

I think I have a better method than Jane--see her post way below. I do make the list but I add the things I do incidentally to the list after I've done them and cross them off. That way I always appear to have done some of my list. Now adding email and checking DK to the list may be a good idea.

Serious, one day I called my bf sobbing.  I think I have Alzeimers, I can't remember anything!  I'm forgetting words.  I don't remember what I am supposed to be doing.  She just started laughing and said "honey - you are in menopause".  For you younger gals - oh yes - you will join us!  Welcome to my life.
