Labradoodle & Goldendoodle Forum
Just need to share, (or vent) that I have never known a dog to eat as much Non-food items as my Bella. I swear she must have the makings of a hardware store in her belly by now! I figure most will come out one end or the other eventually, but it's the stuff that will get stuck or perforate that concerns me. I just can't figure out what it is that attracts her to this "stuff". Plastic, cardboard, sticks, rocks, fabric, socks, underwear, metal, stuffed animals, paper anything, pens, pencils, paper clips, thread, pins, safety pins, cords, carpets, Murphy's hair, her own hair, cotton balls, Q-tips, Rubbermaid bowls, bottle caps, cigarette butts, and last but not least.....her own poop!!!!!
It's not like she doesn't get the best home-cooked food known to doodles, or that she doesn't get plenty of it 2 times a day, or that she is not watched like a hawk all day and night, or that she doesn't have a toy box full of toys that is the envy of all her doodle (and non-doodle) friends or that she doesn't get raw beef bones or bully sticks or crunchy treats during the day. What more is there to do????
I decided I needed Pet Insurance for this one just because of what she finds to eat. It's not a matter of IF she will have a problem with something not belonging in her tummy, it's WHEN it finally happens.
I still find the poop the worst of it though and have done all the holistic suggestions on DK I could find. I might start spraying her with a water bottle or shaking a can with pennies in it near her if she even goes near her poop. Except that entails me going out to the yard in the freezing cold at night and early morning, waiting for the poop to drop!!!!
Oye, This little doodle is making me crazy!!!
Thanks for letting me vent, and don't worry April, I love her dearly, foul breath and all. (Yuck)

I can only sigh with complete understanding. What is it with these dogs? Cimmy doesn't eat her own poop, but during the summer she eats the deer poop! UGH!!!! One time she vomited a mole on one of my boy's bed. We didn't even know she had eaten it. I know sometimes she gets things in her month just to get my attention. Legos, pretend food and doll clothes are some of her favorites. BUT paper is the worst and her absolute FAVORITE! She rarely eats it; she just sheds it and leaves it all over the house.
One note. I have a friend whose GD ate a small dog collar that she must have found when running loose on the golf course near their house. 18 inches of her intestines had to be removed and though the doctors didn't say so at the time, they didn't expect her to make it. She surprised everyone and is doing fine now about two months later.
Joan, we have tried pineapple, pumpkin, cayenne pepper, and charcoal. THe tablets, not real charcoal. I tried anything I read in any book or article that was ever written on it. What's funny is once we think we've got it because she will stop for awhile, she starts back up. I can't imagine adding these ingredients in her diet forever! She does seem to do it more so when she hasn't had pumpkin in her diet, so we are back to adding that at every meal.
As for what to find in the yard, a pair of DH's dirty underwear were out in the yard for the world to see just this week. HOW they got there, (well we know how). but WHEN they were put there is a mystery. DH swears he wasn't running around the back yard naked lately, so it wasn't him.

Here's a link for Pet Insurance to review different plans. We have PetPlan ...Bronze.
Lucca has eaten socks, handi-wipes, loves, loves, loves kleenex. When he was little, before I would take him into my husband's office I was down on my hands and knees scoping out the entire floor. Lucca ALWAYS managed to find the screw or wire nut or whatever else dangerous things that were on the floor (DH is an electrical contr). When Lucca was little the first thing I did was walk into a room and scope it out before I even let him into it. Now, at 2 1/2 he sticks with socks but doesn't usually eat them anymore. Izzy is 4 months and she has already learned to go into my son's room, grab a sock and her and Lucca have a tug of war. Those socks will never be the same.
We used to laugh because on walks we thought people would think Lucca's name was "leave it":) They DO outgrow most of this. Fortunately, for us...Izzy (so far) is not the eater of things but she sure does love her food!! Something Lucca never liked until lately.
Poop....my dogs are discriminating. Never their own, never dog...only cat!!!! What do they call it...cat Rocca!!!!
I remember hearing that feeding a dog pineapple will make their Poop less appetizing to those that eat it!!!
Our Louie is a master at eating lots of the same things on your list plus packages of granola bars, wrappers and box included. You never know what's going to be in our yard!!
