It is Too Hot for Laurie, Fudge, and Vern!!!

I hate to be one of those old people who complain about the weather, but I am very sad to report that I am one of those people.  I can’t stand this heat and finally, I have two family members that agree wholeheartedly with me…Fudge and Vern. Frankly, I will take snow and ice over this weather. Today, our temperatures were over 100 degrees and I had to take drastic measures and find some shorts to wear. God knows Vern is afraid of everything and I was worried that one look at my normally denim covered legs in shorts might send him over the edge. Some women in shorts might be met with cat calls when they go out in public, but I am more prone to hear comments like, “Casper, when is the last time those legs have seen the light of day?” Luckily, here is another great thing about Fudge and Vern....they do not judge and love me even in shorts.

I am also not ashamed to say my crabby meter goes up as the temperature increases. My DD got married last June. When she first told me she wanted an outdoor wedding at the height of the hot season, I looked her right in the eye and asked her what I had done to make her hate me. She said something dumb like this had always been her dream and it would be fun. I told her that if her dream included a menopausal woman sitting in the front row baking in the sun in formal wear than count me in. I also told her that if she expected me to wear Spanx with my ensemble, she’d better have the Jaws of Life and a medic on stand by.  As usually happens, she was so concerned for my welfare that she went ahead with the outdoor wedding plans.

Even in the heat, I still take Fudge and Vern to the park each day for their normal walk and some training. I try and make concessions for their reduced energy levels and yesterday after our short walk we sat in the car with the A/C on while I grilled them on their sit/stays. Vern had his down pat and managed to hold his stay for quite a while. I might need some clarification from my trainer if it is ok to have your butt on the passenger seat and paws on the floor while sucking every last drop of cold air from the vent. He never moved from that spot, so I am pretty sure it counts. Fudge had one momentary lapse on her sit/stay when she lay down to get the last drop of cold water in the dog bowl. When we got back home and out of the heat, we all worked on our down/stays.

P.S. Stay tuned for my next Blog called, How to Lose Weight so You Look Good in Shorts!

Joanne, I love your pool and Starlit is one cute bathing beauty. Fudge and Vern want to come over and play :)

Thanks, Sherri

Jane, I had to laugh about the fresh water in the bowl. Fudge absolutely will not drink unless the water is fresh, which is hard when she shares a bowl with Vern. I feel like changing that water is my full time job.

Ricki, My DH is loving Oregon and I can see by the weather forecast why she does. If it gets too much hotter, get the guest room ready :)

Frannie, I do think it is going to be a hot hot summer.

Donna, 65 degrees sounds wonderful to me. Vern and Fudge can play for about 10 minutes and then back in the house for a nap or indoor wrestling :)

Lisa, I think you might be on to something. Weight loss can only happen in cooler climates. Wait till I tell my doctor.

Jennifer, You have a nice brother drying off all those chairs. I need to get a pool. Fudge and Vern have a Hello Kitty Sprinkler.

OMG you are too funny!  You just explained my feelings to a T, and now I have explaining to do as to why I still am living in the Desert.....  My crabby meter goes up with the temps also Laurie.  When I didn't have air in the car for a couple of years, my DH learned very quickly to make me a nice cool drink and let me sit quietly in from of the fan for at least a 20 minute cool down before any conversations took place LOL

Thanks, Cheryl. When we retire, we are going north :)

Deanna, I am so jealous of your weather. Sounds like heaven.

Thanks, Camilla and F

Sue, I am on my way :)

You are the best!!!!...I want to read that blog immediately...Here in Florida we learn quickly that you have to go and do stuff in the mornings, and hide or sit in a pool for the day, and then do things in the evenings again.  of course you have to have bug protection in the evenings, lol...Florida dogs know that air cond. is a way of life, and walks are for the morning or the evening, never during the day, at least that is the way it is here, lol

Sorry to hear about your heatwave - it's a "blistering" 70 degrees here in the Bay Area of California.  Practically intolerable!!!!

you're hilarious!!! This is one of the funniest blog's I've read to date. I have an idea...want to switch living arrangements? (Bringing our doodles and spouses with us, of course!!) Ontario can get pretty hot in the summer, but the winter's are "oh crap, can't get out the front door" cold at times. Let me know!!! I love the heat!

It's been well into the 90s every day for a couple of weeks. We're melting. And my tush looks likes it melting down the back of my thighs. Callie is bored, but after about 10 minutes of outside play (even morning and evening) she dives under the bushes and burrows in the dirt to get cooler. We're back to business only walks. It's not even mid-June yet. Going to be a loooonnnnnng, sweltering summer.
