It seems that FTBDITW is now also, FTLDITW following his encounter with a skunky.

I thought people needed to know about Finn's Lucky Escape.

Finn is indeed a dog blessed with the most wonderful disposition. He is gentle and kind and oozes energy that communicates - Don't be afraid of me - I am... friend. And indeed this aura drew a soft, fluffy, bubble of protection around Finny when he yesterday came face to face with his first skunk.
I had always imagined that when the inevitable meeting happened it would be at night on a pee walk in the winter in the wind and lashing rain, and Finn would be confronted rudely and suddenly from a bush and would bark madly at the end of a taught leash and all hell would break lose, and there would be horrendous odours and tears and yelping and...well, as you can tell, I had quite worked myself up for it.
So when the meeting took place in a park around the corner, on a bright summer's day, mid-afternoon, it was so unexpected that at first I didn't even recognize what I was looking at. But before I could say OMG, Finn was literally nose to nose with the skunk; and it was quiet and still and birdies twittered, and I could almost hear the little critter say, "You can call me Flower if you like," and Finny respond, "Why, that's such a pretty name..."
It was only when I, Finny's horrified Mum, started freaking out and shouting coarsely, "Leave it! Leave it!" that our stinky little friend turned around and showed it's third eye. And it wasn't pointing at Finny.
As I ran past, wide eyed and screaming, tripping over my own feet, with arms flailing like a windmill, the little creature followed me with it's rear, as though aiming a water pistol and waiting for an opportune moment.
It fired, but even though Finn stood right beside it, it did not aim at him. It missed me, (ha, ha,) although the tiniest little bit of yellow like pollen (poo) landed on Finn's left eye brow.
Now, is he blessed or what? Finny was washed with puppy, No More Tears and conditioner, and the gaggy poo-poo smell has all but gone.
It seems that, FTBDITW is also FTLDITW!

I'm sorry...I know I shouldn't be laughing, but the vision of you running away screaming and arms flailing (and the skunk chasing you) had me in stitches. You really were so lucky. We've encountered many things on our walks, but so far no skunks (thank heaven). I think Finn was just trying to make friends...a new buddy.

Glad to hear you got away safe!

We may not be that lucky. Twice in the past couple of weeks, late in the evening, Samantha growls and runs to the gate by the driveway. Then Charli decides she has to investigate what has gotten Samantha so riled up. I call them, they come back and settle down. A few minutes later, I have a wiff of the sweet flower scent of skunk. I don't think I can get under the gate into our yard. Never saw one in my neighborhood - wonder what has changed.

Been there, done that at 5am one morning! With our former little Toy Poodle! Bathing a skunk sprayed dog at 5am, before work, not my way to start the day. I spent the rest of the day asking people if I smelled like a skunk. So glad you guys escaped the worst of it!

Gracie Doodle got it in the face at 4AM!? Finn-bar is nestled and snoring in his feathery eider at that witching hour, ha, ha. Ps. Yikes Adina - Will Disney sue me?

What do those letters mean? You guys are very lucky. We had a Lab who got it point blank in the face at 4 AM and came running in through the doggie door screaming and shook it all over our kitchen! Absolutely, the most disgusting gaging smell you can ever imagine.
