Labradoodle & Goldendoodle Forum
DH and I moved from the west coast of Canada (Vancouver) to Northern Ontario (Sault Ste Marie) 3 months ago... the weather is very different! We are used to pretty mild winters, so its a shock to the system having temperatures regularly in the minuses (Celsius). It has been pretty mild so far, but today is cold - minus 20 C. (-4 F)
Well I took Cooper out for her morning potty and play (fetch). The clasp on her long line (we do not have a fenced yard) was frozen solid so we had to use a leash. She went potty, then ran back inside - her legs were shaking. So....
When Cooper was smaller we bought her a fleece lined coat. She grew bigger than expected so it was too small (length wise. And often too warm. So we saved her coat for the odd time it got really cold in Vancouver (hahaha around minus 5 lol), and bought a rain slicker. Well, the fleece lined coat has been very useful here! Cooper likes it roomy, so it loos way too small, but it does the job.
I took Cooper out with her coat for another potty break, and her legs were shaking, she was moving very slow, then she lay down shaking (even though her fur is long). So.... I had an idea....
I have a degenerative spine (neck and upper back) damage (which is getting better from physio and chiropractic) which limits blood flow to my arms, so my arms are often cold, though my body is warm. My Grandma knitted me some "arm warmers"... I have 2 pairs that are shorter than the rest, perfect length for Cooper. I thought she would refuse to walk in them, but as long as they dont cover her feet she doesnt seem to mind them. Havent tried them outside yet... but heres a photo
I think Grandma might have to knit her pink leg warmers and a pink sweater (I am not one for dressing dogs up other than a rain coat.... but when its this cold....)
What do you do to keep your dood warm?

Awe poor Cooper! I think she will get used to it. Her coat looks like Baileys and we too over in Saskatchewan have had some pretty cold days -34 etc. and she will still gladly go run in the back yard for 20 min. I however, will not. These are the days I wish I had her enrolled in doggy day care, but then I am too cold to even want to get in my car and drive her there! I sympathize with you having to take her our every time... Looks like you may need a one-piece muttluk snowsuit to get you through the winter days too!
OMD - those leg warmers are the cutest things ever!
Oh, too bad the Muttluks doesn't work for poor Coop.
I have a size 22 muttluks reversible snow suit for sale. Email me at szpaolella@gmail.com if interested
I looked at the Muttluks snow suit earlier - its too small for Cooper unfortunately
For the tie out clamp--just hold it and squeeze it with your warm fingers for a few seconds It defrosts in about 20-30 seconds WORKS
Please run to the Muttlocks Snowsuit posted in the discussion area. I think it was meant for YOU!!
Olivia Newton John is that you??
Hey Cooper, "Lets get physical, physical, c'mon and get physical, lets get into physical!"
Back to the 80's! Leg warmers! This is too stinking cute!.
Cooper looks so cute in this "outfit"! Can't help you with the cold weather dog clothes. Haley likes it cold, the colder the better. He might shake too if the temperature was as cold as you are experiencing. I think the pink sweater and legwarmers for Cooper would be very fetching.
tHIS is culture shock for sure! My doodle loves the snow and cold. We went hiking in the bush with a creek in blowing snow and he was in the creek swimming as well as in the snow! He wears nothing. I had booties for my other dog and use them if walking in salted sidewalks as they really hurt their feet. Other wise it is just keeping them protected from the weather making their entrance into the house as clean as possible.
