Let me start out with the statement that I do not yet have real babies, so for me, my pups are my kiddies for now.  With that said........Stella had developed a yeast infection last week and is luckily now taking meds for it....Well, 2 days ago Seamus developed an eye infection (basically "pink eye")  which the vet believes he probably got from Stella's infection......Despite our protests, she licks herself at the infected spot and she also always tries to lick poor Seamus' eyes....so of course the infection spread from her to him.  But anyway, we have to give Stella 2 pills, twice a day and clean her infection.  We have to give Seamus eye drops 4 times a day.  They are mopey and moody and VERY demanding of our attention at the moment (more so than usual).  I know everyone says that dogs ARE NOT children and I agree......but at the moment, I think these 2 pups are the best practice I could ask for.  LOL

My partner just said to me that having Riley is like having a  baby.  This is a man who is old fashioned, macho man personified.  Nothing like a Doodle to melt a mans heart!

I agree with Jane, a cone might help for both of them. I know it appears that they are going to die at the mere thought of being coned but they do get used to it pretty quickly. We had a Golden who had hot spots frequently and the cone was a life-saver. My doodles are my babies now that my kids are grown. It is our nurturing thing I guess.

Couldn't agree more...DH and I don't have human kids yet and the dogs are our children (always will be!).  I have to give Peri supplements daily. And Taquito is on a homecooked diet with B12, Tums, Fish Oil supplements and daily kidney meds.  So I do think I will be better equipped to handle raising children than someone who has never had to care for something other than him/herself!

I agree, puppies are very much like human babies, but I'll take the analogy a step further.  Regarding the "mopey, moody, and VERY demanding of attention" part - that sounds a lot like a sick husband!  Ha Ha!!!

haha....aw poor doodles!!!! They always have to "get in each other's business" haha. And I agree with them being just like babies...I don't have any of my own, either, but Lola's a handful at times and is ALWAYS getting into trouble!

Our pups are our babies :-) or at least, THEY think they are, lol.
I wouldn't argue with saying having a puppy is good practice for kids!

Having raised 3 human babies back in my day I can tell you that puppies are very close.  Both have their "place" babies the crib and puppies the crate.  Both are eating and pooping machines - I wonder if I should have trained my children to potty at the "get busy" command - lol.  Both need lots of attention, love and discipline.  When sick that all gets ramped up with time, attention and medical bills.  So yep, this is great training for you!!!  I sure hope that they are better soon.  (Is there any chance that Stella could wear a small cone for a little while to help her not to lick?)

I agree that sometimes doodles feel like the best real kid practice possible. :-) I hope your pups feel better soon!

Huff is being like that now with his paw issues he is having. Sometimes I like babying him but it is a little hard for me to carry an 80 pound dog in and out of the house every time he goes out so I don't really like that part. hahaha:)
