Today I found out just what Banjo's made of.   Just as I'd suspected...he's completely "opportunistic".   This morning I took him out to the backyard to play in the snow.  After a good 30 minutes of tossing snowballs for him we headed for the back door.  I didn't have a leash on him and so I held his collar and started on to the ice slicked patio to the door.   Well, as you've probably already guessed...I took a header, hitting my head, shoulder and knee.  There I am sprawled out in pain and all I could think of was I've got to get the door open and usher him inside before he takes off.  I managed to reach up and open the door with my good hand and luckily Banjo went willingly inside at which point I slithered over the threshold, closing the door behind me.

Safely inside, now I could succumb to the pain.  I couldn't help but moan and cry, all the while wondering if my arm was broken and my knee shattered.....surely they must be for it to hurt this badly.  While all of this was going on, Banjo was running madly up and down the stairs.  I think he stopped to look at me two or three times.  In the midst of the pain I was thinking to myself....oh the poor thing is frightened and upset and doesn't know what to do.  Well, after about 5 minutes I attempted to move my leg.....YES!  .... it worked!  Holding my bad arm against my body I managed to get up of the floor and slowly worked my way up the stairs.  At this point I hear Banjo running madly about the upstairs and it slowly begins to dawn on me.....these are the crazy, manic pawsteps of Dog Gone Wild....you know that sound .....when your dog has something he shouldn't have and is running crazily around the house with it....taunting you to catch-me-if-you-can!!!

It seems that while I lay there thinking my body was broken beyond repair, Banjo had discovered the socks, underwear, pajama bottoms and tee shirts that were left on the laundry room floor and had brought each and every item up to the living room to bask in.  He never gave one thought to my well being.   It never occurred to him to push the phone off the cradle to try to dial 911, or to lay loyally by my side, licking my tears til DH came home!   Nope!   It was PARTY time!!!!

Sort of sounds like the Captain of that ill fated cruise ship!

Footnote:  Looks like I'll be ok...knee is bruised, little lump on the forehead and as long as I keep my arm close up against my body it doesn't scream with pain.   Sitting here with ice on it.

UPDATE  -----

UPDATE:

Feeling a whole lot sore today, in places I didn't know I had but I'm pretty sure nothing is broken and I'll be good as new after a few more days.   Thanks all for the well wishes!

As for Banjo....Well I've come to the conclusion that I may have misunderstood his seeming indifference during my mini-crisis yesterday.

For almost as long as we've had him, he will grab a forbidden item and run around playing Catch-Me-If-You-Can.  He typically does this when we're not paying him much attention....and he's got us so well trained that we jump right in to play the game.  Running around til we catch him and then he'll drop whatever he's been taunting us with.

After some thought last night it dawned on me that he was trying to get me to get up off the floor and chase him.  When the first stolen article of laundry didn't work...he went for another item....on and on!   He did stop by my head a few times, although I wasn't really paying him any attention, he was probably trying to show me what he had in his mouth.  His doggie attempts to entice me up off the floor!      So, you see.....he really is a Lassie!!!  Or a Doodle Super-Hero!

Poor Carol! I'm sorry but besides the awful fall, this is hilarious! Hope you feel better soon!

Oh Carol, I really hope you don't have any lasting damage done. I think we may have to start the "I Ain't No Lassie Club". I know of at least one other member. Whenever I am not feeling well and if I lay down with a blanket, he who shall remain nameless, thinks it a great time to play tug with Mom's blanket, not fun when you have a migraine. In his defense, the one time he did pull me over he came and sat nicely by me while I tried to collect myself.  Feel better. Banjo, I still luv ya baby. :>)

Carol ... isn't that the "mother's curse"?

"May you have three more JUST LIKE YOU!"

Carol. One time, many years ago, our dog, Hershey, accidentally tangled her leash up around my ankles and I fell hard enough that I was afraid I broke my hip. While I lay on the ground, writhing in pain, my oldest daughter yelled from the outside of the door, "mom, could you throw us the house keys, so we can open the front door." At least, Banjo has the excuse that he is a dog :)

LOL....You guys are giving me a good laugh.   Now that my illusions of my wonderful, perfect dog having Lassie Like Super Powers has gone down the toilet I guess I have to get used to the reality that he's just a dog.   (Don't tell him...but I still think he's the best!)   Laurie....I'd have DIED if I had been carrying my good camera and fell!  Heaven forbid if my camera got hurt!     Ricki....yup...you did warn me....I didn't listen to my Mother either...so don't fell badly.   Jen....OMD...that is Karma!!!

Thanks all for your concern....I'm still considering giving the Dr a call....will wait to see how it is tomorrow....and then may just wait to see how it is on Monday.

Carol! This sounds like a terrible fall! Banjo, shame on you! When your mama needs you, you have to step it up, buddy. I would never have suspected that naughtiness from your irresistible cutenes. I'm sorry you are in pain and now dealing with a laundry mess and a "bad to the bone" boy. I hope you feel much better soon and not finding you have done more damage that you think. Hoping a sympathetic and helpful DH is home now.

Carol, I am so glad you are ok and hope you go to the doctor if the pain continues. I was never laughing at your pain, but at your description of Banjo Gone Wild.  Too bad you didn't film the whole thing with your good arm....it could have gone viral on Youtube or at least, DK!! Plus it wouldn't hurt to have some evidence, because no jury would convict him, once they saw that adorable face. All kidding aside, feel better soon!

Oh Carol I hope that you are ok.  I would watch that shoulder.  Did myself in many years ago by falling down the stairs, just a few.  But to this day the only time my shoulder hurts is when I use it!  Hope you feel better.  And what a photo!  Bad boys, bad boys, whatcha gonna do when your momma falls down?
