Today I found out just what Banjo's made of.   Just as I'd suspected...he's completely "opportunistic".   This morning I took him out to the backyard to play in the snow.  After a good 30 minutes of tossing snowballs for him we headed for the back door.  I didn't have a leash on him and so I held his collar and started on to the ice slicked patio to the door.   Well, as you've probably already guessed...I took a header, hitting my head, shoulder and knee.  There I am sprawled out in pain and all I could think of was I've got to get the door open and usher him inside before he takes off.  I managed to reach up and open the door with my good hand and luckily Banjo went willingly inside at which point I slithered over the threshold, closing the door behind me.

Safely inside, now I could succumb to the pain.  I couldn't help but moan and cry, all the while wondering if my arm was broken and my knee shattered.....surely they must be for it to hurt this badly.  While all of this was going on, Banjo was running madly up and down the stairs.  I think he stopped to look at me two or three times.  In the midst of the pain I was thinking to myself....oh the poor thing is frightened and upset and doesn't know what to do.  Well, after about 5 minutes I attempted to move my leg.....YES!  .... it worked!  Holding my bad arm against my body I managed to get up of the floor and slowly worked my way up the stairs.  At this point I hear Banjo running madly about the upstairs and it slowly begins to dawn on me.....these are the crazy, manic pawsteps of Dog Gone Wild....you know that sound .....when your dog has something he shouldn't have and is running crazily around the house with it....taunting you to catch-me-if-you-can!!!

It seems that while I lay there thinking my body was broken beyond repair, Banjo had discovered the socks, underwear, pajama bottoms and tee shirts that were left on the laundry room floor and had brought each and every item up to the living room to bask in.  He never gave one thought to my well being.   It never occurred to him to push the phone off the cradle to try to dial 911, or to lay loyally by my side, licking my tears til DH came home!   Nope!   It was PARTY time!!!!

Sort of sounds like the Captain of that ill fated cruise ship!

Footnote:  Looks like I'll be ok...knee is bruised, little lump on the forehead and as long as I keep my arm close up against my body it doesn't scream with pain.   Sitting here with ice on it.

UPDATE  -----

UPDATE:

Feeling a whole lot sore today, in places I didn't know I had but I'm pretty sure nothing is broken and I'll be good as new after a few more days.   Thanks all for the well wishes!

As for Banjo....Well I've come to the conclusion that I may have misunderstood his seeming indifference during my mini-crisis yesterday.

For almost as long as we've had him, he will grab a forbidden item and run around playing Catch-Me-If-You-Can.  He typically does this when we're not paying him much attention....and he's got us so well trained that we jump right in to play the game.  Running around til we catch him and then he'll drop whatever he's been taunting us with.

After some thought last night it dawned on me that he was trying to get me to get up off the floor and chase him.  When the first stolen article of laundry didn't work...he went for another item....on and on!   He did stop by my head a few times, although I wasn't really paying him any attention, he was probably trying to show me what he had in his mouth.  His doggie attempts to entice me up off the floor!      So, you see.....he really is a Lassie!!!  Or a Doodle Super-Hero!

Ow ow ow ow OW, Carol! OMD! If you get yourself to a doctor (and it sounds like you might want to) don't hesitate to grab him by the lapels and growl "give me drugs!" I did similar a few weeks ago on a patch of ice in my driveway ... on my way to the car to take him to the vet to be neutered (he'd call it karma, I'm sure). All I could do was hold on to the end of his leash while I writhed on the ground while he acted like I'd done the most entertaining thing EVER! "Woo-hoo, mom! Do it again!"

I'd tell you to take a hot soaking bath, but by the looks of Stink Eye above, he will just jump in for a swim.

Carol, did you go to the doctor?

OMD. So sorry to hear about your fall. One of the reasons I hate this s@#$ despite the doodles loving it. I hope it's all feeling worse than it really is and by Tues., my estimate of pain decrease time, you're all back to normal. Tell Banjo he is a stinker. I'm sure Land C would behave likewise though.

"What?! Timmy's trapped in the well? Where did he leave his socks?"
I hope the ice and rest helps.

Wow, sweet Banjo is giving us all the "stink eye" in this picture.  I see absolutely no signs of remorse in this Doodle face!  I'm so sorry that you took a header, Carol.  At least nothing is broken, but I'm sure everything hurts, and just wait till tomorrow.  I find it always seems worse the day after....aren't I cheerful.  I'm afraid my two guys would be no different in the same situation....it's always "all about them".....probably a "guy thing".  Feel better...and no more playing in the snow for a while...that will teach this "bad to the bone Dood".

Oh gosh it sounds like you took a terrible spill.  That pain that goes away when you hold your arm in close to your body, well I don't want to alarm you, but if that continues you should get your collar bone checked.  Do take it easy today.

Now you listen here Banjo!  Your momma needs some TLC right now.  Step away from the laundry and be the good little doodle that I know you are deep inside.  You hear me Banjo??

I am so sorry that you fell.  I have done that myself so I know your pain.  I hope that the ice helps and that there is nothing major wrong beyong the wicked discomfort you are feeling right now, that is.  As for Banjo, well, it seems he really is bad to the bone--but so adorable.  I am certain he feels awful about leaving you there writhing in pain but, hey, you know those doodles and their socks.  Feel better!
