Looks like Rosco has put on some preggo sympathy weight!

The doodles had their annual check-up today and each has their issues to deal with now.

Rosco is as healthy as a horse and weighs as much as one too. He has gained approximately 14 pounds in the last year (from age 2.5 to age 3.5)! I knew he was getting a little chunky but would never have guessed he'd have gained THIS much. He's now about 95 lbs. We don't give out treats often so it isn't that. My poor always-starvin' boy is gonna go on a teeny bit of a diet now much to his dismay. This is when I wish they'd make premium food with added fillers ;-)

Thule on the other hand seems to have some type of bladder or urinary tract infection which accounts for her thermonuclear colored and highly odoriferous pee. But she has exhibited NO other symptoms. No extra thirst/drinking. No accidents or frequent urination. Just a high red and white blood cell count in the urinalysis and some protein (which the vet says is from the red blood cells). She has started antibiotics today...and will be rechecked in 3 weeks.

LOL..no thanks on the doggy diapers for now. It's been quite easy catching the urine as it comes =)

Hey, Rosco is a Heavyweight. Has he joined the group?

What is your due date? Getting very close, isn't it?

Here's a little clue to get a urine sample. I had to get a sample when Hondo had liver failure. He was taking several types of medications and wearing sanitary napkins or diapers in the house. So I would just wait for a wet diaper or napkin and then squeeze it out into a sample jar. Of course, your dogs are not used to wearing diapers, but they may be amenable to trying something new.
Reminds me of a little story about our poodle (about 28 years ago). The dog chewed a tick out of his scrotum and got an irritation or infection. The vet said to try diapers to keep the medication on his private parts. At the same time, the baby got a yeast infection and the doctor said to let him run around nude in the yard. Soooooo. . . we had a dog in diapers and a nude baby. Ahhh yes, summer in California!

Maybe he's trying to put on some fat so he can curl up with the baby and keep it warm. And maybe Thule's smelly pee is just an effort to get you used to all of the new smelly things you'll have to deal with soon. I think they're just trying to help.

Soup anyone?

Maybe he just needs to have his anal glands expressed, or didn't take off his jewelry, or collar, or had Chinese food the night before.... :)

That is funny, I can just picture you Adina. That is exactly what I saw at the vets. Hahahahaha It is funny to watch. The dog I was watching was not cooperating though. I don't think they ever did get the specimen.

Karen & Lucy: I used a metal soup ladle and walked very close to Thule's and Rosco's behind in the yard with their first morning pee...I then ladled the urine into a specimen container I picked up at the vet's the day before. THEN I cleaned that darn ladle with all my might!!
