Hard to believe Maggie has already been with us for over a month now, and that she is 10 months old.

We survived the cold/allergy bout she had for almost 3 weeks.  I am convinced it is allergies, and will monitor this closely.

So we decided she needed a good bath after having a runny nose for weeks and that maybe a little trim would be in order:  BIG MISTAKE.

We want to try and keep her coat shaggy, and she doesn't really have a thick coat.  I have always had labs so I had never seen our grommers cutting skills.  We asked for a sanitary trim, light beard trim (because it was crooked), and to leave her body as it.

When I got her back her face was HACKED:  her brows her cut super short,, beard just about gone, and ears cut straight across.  What happened to leave the face long and to just even out the beard??  Her body was also trimmed all over:  what?!?

My shaggy Maggie is gone.  She looks sooo different.  I know, I know it will grow back but I am bummed out.  I actually had to fix her ears they were so bad (or what I could do to fix).  I probably will never let her be trimmed up again....I may need to learn to do it myself.  So I guess, I am either needing to find a new groomer or start reading up on grooming doodles.  Anyone know of a good doodle groomer in MA or RI???

So much for wanting her to feel better after being sick for weeks, and to celebrate her 10 month birthday!  :-)

We love her so much.  She just fits into our home so well.   Training is going well.  She does like to bark for attention, and this is getting less.  She is eager to please and loves to go on walks.  She could not walk on a leash when we got her, and now this girl is on a mission when we go out for our daily walks!

Happy 10 months Maggie!!

Hi:

I can't help with a  groomer in your area as I am in Canada. If it is any consolation I had to try three groomers before I found a really good one who knows what they are doing with doodles.Sadie came home twice looking like a skinned rabbit after I had given specific instructions.

The groomer now scissor cuts her and she is beautiful after her appt.

She sounds like a wonderful little doodle girl!!  I swear some groomers are on a search and destroy mission when  it comes to doodle hair cuts!!  You're welcome to join those of us who have given up on groomers in the Grooming Group!! :)

stories like these are why i decided to do Cooper myself. It happens ALOT im afraid. I give Cooper a trim every so often, last summer I scissor cut her down to 2 inches - this summer hasnt been as hot so ive left her long. i do love the shaggy look! Thankfully, fur grows back

Sorry to hear you and Maggie had a bad grooming experience.  It sounds like Maggie is adjusting well.

Hey Amy, I went through the same thing with Kahlua, the groomer I went to ASSURED me that he knew what I wanted, he had groomed dogs for 20 years, etc. etc.  Went to pick her up and about cried.  Then I started grooming her myself.  It was worth the 3 - 4 hours at the local pet store.  I pretty much scissor cut her, the only thing I couldn't do was the sani and in between her toes.  I did take her to a groomer to get those done, while I watched.  I started a new job in March and I travel a fair amount and can't get home to groom her.  She went from March to August without so much as a trim, needless to say she was SHAGGY.  Then I joined DK and got so much information from the Dog Grooming Group, feedback from other doodle owners and with all that, pictures, instructions and a nice long talk with a groomer at Pet Smart, I handed Kahlua over and 3 1/2 hours later, my baby girl was ready and she was beautiful, perfectly groomed.  I would recommend you visit the Dog Grooming Group, there is a pretty detailed checklist to give a groomer.  I also scanned the pictures of pics of what I wanted Kahlua to look like, then find a groomer you feel comfortable with and talk to them as long as needed, you'll know if they are listening or not.  I plan on using Christine when I'm travelling and then grooming her myself when I'm not.  Oh, and do not believe a groomer that says, I've been grooming Doodles for years, they haven't!

Amy, I know how you feel, Chloe's first cut was like this and I cried because they gave her a poodle cut! Now I do Chloe's myself-with Myla I say DON"T TOUCH THE HEAD OR FACE!!!! It does grow back though!!

Amy, I'm sorry Maggie got hacked! So frustrating. I'm now grooming my guys myself.

DeeDee, I email the photo to myself. Download it to my computer and then load it to DK. I don't know if there is another way.

I just had the same experience and it is the third time w/ this particular gal.  I am so miffed I have to be careful bc Sheila knows something is wrong.  I worked so hard getting her to finally look like a doodle and in one hour she now looks like a poodle, and a badly cut poodle.  I don't know WHY these dog groomers don't get it.  I swear they do it just to make we DKers mad. Do you know how I can send a pic from my phone to DK?
