Make sure Vet has proper weight recorded

Took my pup in to be spayed this morning. I happened to ask the tech what her weight was (out of curiosity). I'm so glad I did. She told me 32 pds, I quickly asked for a re-weigh as she was only 19 pds a month ago. She did so right away and said she was 18.9, that she had mis-read it. This could have been a disaster as they will be putting her under anesthesia. I believe this could have killed her had they not realized their mistake prior to putting her under. I'm so thankful that I asked. Please everyone do this with all of your loved-ones; humans and pets alike!

Don't forget to zero out the scale before putting them on.

Turn on the scale and let it settle out without anything on it or touching it, then zero it out (if it's not already at zero), then step on the scale.

OMG, that is scary. Thank heavens you caught the error. I would hope that vets always double-check the weight prior to surgery, but you never know. Thanks for sharing, I'll remember this when it's Gus and Molly's turn.

Yeah, that is why I weigh my pooch/feline and announce the weight to them.

We'd check in, and go RIGHT to the scale!

Took Ned to the vet 3 weeks ago and the tech said he was 25 pounds which is a 2 pound loss. I re-weighed him on our way out and he weighed 26.8 pounds. Not a big difference in the world but that could be significant for medications etc.

That's scary! I always weigh Yankee & have it recorded whenever I go to the vet.

Gosh, good that you checked again. Our vet weighs the dog at every visit or let's say, the owners weigh their dogs themselves and once the consult begins the doctor asks for the weight and notes it down no matter what kind of examination they will perform. It's just a routine they have established that always the actual weight is recorded.
