Labradoodle & Goldendoodle Forum
DK members, Barbara, Lee and Lexi Seidman & I drove last Monday to a kill shelter in Naples, Florida to pick up their first foster for the DRC. Zeke is a 3 year old, 85 lb, aprioct and blond F1 LD. He is the most sweet, loving, quiet, polite, ball obsessed, well trained boy. He comes when called - even in the park! He sits when asked & walks beautifully on the leash. Zeke is not the typical 'silly' Doodle like my Charli, but he is more serious like my Samantha. They actually look alike except the coloring and Zeke has the long legs that Samantha has always longed for.
The first night with Barbara and Lee he stood quietly for a shower, had his teeth brushed with an electric toothbrush and slept on Lexi's bed at the foot of their bed. He is an amazing boy to allow strangers to do this to him.
His story - supposedly his former "Dad" got married and the new wife is allergic to him. In my heart I know that she just didn't want him around. His elbows are caloused from laying on hardscape so he must have been banned from being an inside Doodle. He does NOT shed so 'allergies??'. Was she just jealous? Whatever it was he is now safe and being loved and cared for the way he deserves.
Zeke was nibbling open sores on his tail which the vet said was flea dermatitis. No other place but his tail and with a shot from their vet, he stopped immediately nibbling on his tush. He never chewed his feet so we are hoping that he does not have allergies. The vet doesn't think so - it was just the neglect he suffered in his former life.
After a week, he is sleeping on his back, spread eagle like a happy, content, trusting Doodle.
Zeke has already found his forever home. He will be living in the Keys with a young couple and their newborn son. Zeke as 'baby tested' with Barbara and Lee when they brought him to their daughter's home who has a 5 month old. He was as gentle as a lamb. His new Mom and GrandMa are 'the groomer' in the Keys. He will go to work with her, and her Mini Poodle, Chihuahua, and Grandma's Poodle. They are aware of the possiblity of Zeke having allergies but who better to watch to see if he has any skin changes than a groomer? He will get to spend his days with his people, his new siblings and other dogs and on the weekends, he will have an acre+ to roam. There is a huge Doodle group in the Keys that he will now be part of. How lucky can one Doodle get?
Another wonderful foster story. Barbara and Lee are awaiting their next foster as soon as we get the word. They may have 3 Doodles until Zeke goes to his forever home next Sunday.
