Mistaken Identity

What breed(s) have your doodles been mistaken for?

I know this sounds like a weird post, but I laugh every time I start to count up the number of breeds Moose (or Mica) has been mistaken for. I've had people ask me if he (or she) is: an Otterhound, a Flat Coated Retreiver, a Curly Coated Retriver, a Portugeuse Water Dog, an Italian Spinoni, and......here's my favorite...an Irish Wolfhound. I commented that Moose was a bit small for the last one and they thought he was a puppy (he's a few inches too short even for a puppy). There are a couple more I can't remember right now. In general, I can spot a doodle a mile away now, but people that aren't that familiar with them usually can't quite place the breed (with a few exceptions). It's always been a fun exchange and it sometimes gives me a chance to promote the IDOG rescue and rehome page.

So, anyone else have someone walk up and ask "is that a ________?" (fill in the blank).

PS: I read the "sheep post". They have not been mistaken for sheep (yet) but Mica's back fur does feel like sheep wool. Baa baa black sheep. Ha!

I've been asked if Blaze is a PWD or an Italian Spinone. I've even had a man say he thought he was an "Unkempt" Airedale! Strangely enough, yesterday we were walking in the park and we walked by a man who said, "That's not a Doodle" and I said, "Yes, he IS a Doodle!"

Murphy has been mistaken for a sheep...but it >was a 3 year old.

Easter weekend we were 'observing" at an AKC agility trial. I could just see all the wheels turning as they were trying to figure out what AKC breed Murphy was. The 2 people that came up asked if he was an Italian Spinoni and the other guess was Irish Wolfhound.

The other day at the dog park I heard a couple of other owners discussing Shiloh, trying to decide what he was. As we were leaving one of them asked me what he is and when I said a labradoodle, he was like "see i told you guys it was a doodle"

I was at a dog show a few weekends ago, and almost everyone commented on what a beautiful Portuguese Waterdog she was :) Sometimes it's poodle, but most of the time a Porti.

LOL....it is amazing how no one seems to know what breed they are! and then when I tell them, they say "aren't they hypo-allergenic"? Marlow's problem is that he is the color of a sheep!
