Labradoodle & Goldendoodle Forum

Throughout my time here on DK I've been hearing about doodle paws smelling like fritos. Whopper definitely doesn't have Frito smelling paws. I've also never met any doodles (or at least smelled the paws) of ones with Frito paws. So, needless to say, I was really beginning to question whether they do in fact exist. Well...they do! Simba, our new addition, has FRITO paws. I even had my husband smell them to make sure I wasn't nuts. Simba must think we are both nuts as we now sometimes call him Mr. Frito and sniff his paws from time to time to see if the smell lasts. So far it has! So other doubters out there...Frito paws are for real! If you don't have a doodle with these special paws, I guess that means you need to consider adding a second, or third, or fourth...

His special smell does get hidden for a while when I get him groomed, but he just smells differently than any dog I have ever had. I assumed all non-shedding dogs smelled this way - I guess it is like those of you that have Frito scented paws, until you learn differently, you think all doodles smell like Fritos. But to be sure, I will ask my DH tonight if he thinks Ned smells differently, not doggy, but not Fritoish either. I will let you all know!

Nancy...this isn't the first time that you have said that Little Ned has a smell all of his own. Remind me at the next romp to give him a good sniff. I am really curious to see what the Eau De Toilette of Ned smells like! ha ha

Okay, I just sniffed both doodles' paws. Am I stoopid? Do we know where those paws have been? Yuck..... Actually neither dog has Frito paws. Clancy's smell just like dog paws and Ned has a distinctive odor - he smells the same all over, even his ears, but it doesn't smell like Fritos to me.

Any dog can have frito paws....it does seem especially so if the dog has a lot of fur on his/her paws.

No Frito paws here. We had a Lab once and he had Frito paw all the time. Gracie Doodle is a Goldendoodle. Do you think it has something to do with Labs? Are all of your Doodles Labradoodles???

We have frito paws at our house. I have heard the same explanation about it being a yeast/moisture issue.

We will have to further look into the frito paw phenomenon to determine a why...there doesn't seem to be any rhyme or reason with doodle type either.
