Third week of AKC STAR puppy training...Momma has been SOOOO happy with my training AT home.  I can FOCUS, I have really worked on SIT AND STAY...and even DOWN AND STAY (hey, I didn't even know what that meant until this past weekend).  Hey, you give me a cookie (Momma just got some freeze-dried 100% beef liver treats) and I will recite the alphabet!  Heck, I can do SIT, DOWN and STAY with hand signals.

WTD...Momma was NOT happy tonight in class...there were WAY too many distractions...especially that 9 month old Rhodesian Ridgeback puppy (they called him a puppy, but I swear, he was 4-5 times bigger and heavier than me)!

Momma was really losing it...she wanted me to focus on her...sit and stay.. but WTD, there was WAY too much going on.  I did a pretty good job (with a few reminders)!  All of a sudden, Momma looked at me and a really naughty word flew out of her month.  I HOPE to Never hear that word again.  I will really try to be better next week.  Your Doodle, Rua

Hi Rua, Murphy here. Its really stressful when moms expect us to be perfect. Perfect isn't much fun. When I went to agility I thought mom changed my name to Murphy Dammit. All the little dogs were scared when I got the zoomies (and I got them every class). And the teacher had this really disapproving look....which upset my mom even more.(My mom must not have had much fun growing up...being perfect and all). She is really soft spoken but I could tell from her tone when she said that Murphy Dammit in my ear. I wish she would just chill. (She did laugh when I belched...mom said burp was too nice a word...and STOPPED the whole class. My brother taught me that. I could teach you, Rua.) I hope it gets better. Remember the treats.

Your pal,

Murphy

Rua, We think some of those naughty words are our middle names. You are lucky your mom only said ONE bad word. She sounds nice to us. Love, Fudge and Vern

Hi Rua!  It sounds like you are doing a great job to me!! Your mommy is the one that needs to learn how to "settle". That's what my mom tells me to do if I get all worked up about something!!  So next time just remind her that you are still a baby and haven't been on earth very long. It takes a while to adjust and learn a new language like "human"!  Then kiss her and she will forget everything! hee hee! Your friend, Tara  p.s. I love, love liver treats too!! I'll do anything for them!!

Hi Rua....it's Murph.  My Mom says those bad words during training too sometimes.  It's usually when I'm lunging after some other dog who's trying to come into MY territory.  She used to say them really loud, but now since she's been working with her trainer, she says them "soft and calm"....she's trying to not make me more excited.  It's really funny to watch her say these REALLY BAD words in her "nice voice".  I know about the other dogs being distractions during class.....I used to BE those "other dogs".  Now I'm much better, and Mom doesn't allow me to even look at another dog.  I still check them out with the corner of my eye, but she doesn't know it.  Hang in there, Little Rua...do it for the liver treats (YUMMY)!

Rua .... Sophie here ........ Girl do I feel your pain.  We went to training in the Petsmart store.  There weren't very many dogs in our class, but you wanna talk distractions, what's a girl to do!  There were all these birds.  Well, you may have read on here before that I love me some birds ........ That silly instructor, she always made me do all my sits, downs and stays, right in front of the bird cages (and they had birds in them, lots of birds in them and they were all calling my name).  Now how stupid do you think that instructor was!  I think Rooney's Mom might be on to something though ..... If your Mom says a bad word next week, maybe you could just redirect her with a glass of wine or something!

Rua - when I took my class - I was the smallest and youngest puppy there - I am not even sure that some of the other "puppies" weren't in fact baby dinosaurs.  They would jump up and be as tall as my mom, very scary and how does anyone expect us to focus - I thought I was about to become someone's snack.  The key is to remember that your mom isn't fully trained yet - if she says a bad word you must redirect her with something else.  As for the other puppies - you can out cute them any day!  Doodle on girl.  Rooney

Dear Sweet Rua,

My mommy has said words to me too. I don't know what they mean but the tone scares the treats right out of me. I try to listen in class too. It is very hard for me to pay attention when big dogs that weigh 70 pounds sit on my tail. Sorry mom, I can't look at you when everyone else is playing around and doing fun stuff. Geeze, Moms just don't get it. I get you Rua, remember if you ever become available..  I will be your man.. I won't bark at you, only wag my tail and give you kisses.

Mom's can't live with them, Can't live without them,

Love the Little Man who is trying to steal your heart.. (By the way I have been working out and I am up to 12 pounds now)

Jack Daniels xoxoxo
