Rua - Counter Surfing? How is that even possible?

Rua and I did a little AKC S.T.A.R Puppy training this AM.  I took out my baggies of training treats.  I have Cherrios in one, kibble in another, freeze-dried beef liver in one, and another full of 4 different training treats, cut up into 3/8" x 3/8" pieces).  I alternate rewards....Cherrios for the easy stuff, kibble here and there, the tiny pieces for harder and the liver for high-value.

Well, I was working on sit/stay and down/stay.  I was giving her Cherrios for sits, tiny pieces for sit/stays and downs, and working on down/stays with liver.  We did a session this am, and I left the baggies on my kitchen counter since we would be doing more training (normally the treats are in the basket on the counter).  DH was downstairs, I was in my office (on DK) off the entry and he came upstairs and asked Rua what she had (should have known something was up, it was too quiet).

Well, I walk out into the living room and she had a empty baggie...with the bottom chewed up (I don't believe she ingested baggie since there were pieces of it still on the floor.  What she did ingest was a HUGE handful of training treats.  I still can't believe it.

Here is sweet LITTLE Rua sitting in front of the counter:

Here is Rua in action:

She is like a pogo stick...this is Rua on the DOWN part of the jump (you can tell by the way her hair/ears are flying up).   Her back legs up to where they join, are a whopping 9".

She was one full little tummy right now!  I am going to guess she won't need any dinner tonight!

I never in my wildest dreams ever thought I would have to worry about her counter surfing.  Guess I better watch what I leave along the edge of the counter.

I still can't believe Rua is a counter surfer!

What doodles will do to get some treats!  Be careful she can't catch her collar on the drawer knob though.

I just love the jumping photo - what a great picture.  Roo and Tigger both counter surf.  Or rather Roo counter surfs and Tigger stands watch and shares in the prize.  The only really safe place is the top of the microwave, which is over my head and both are just 50 pound doodles.  Roo has a great reach though.  He just puts his paws on the counter and s..t..rrrr..e..t..c..h..e..s his right paw to snag the goodie.  Your picture has inspired me to try and get DH to get a picture of Roo in action with Tigger on guard.

Wow, KangaRua. Now you know why we use treats for training, they are great motivation. Rua, you are the cutest thing ever. If I was a betting person, I would have bet against you getting those treats.

Rua is adorable and you'll just have to channel her obvious ability in a different way.  Could be an agility champion in the making!

haha you go Rua.She doesn't look tall enough but she sure can jump. We'll help you fill your wine cellar. My DH was just complaining today about needing another V-tech storage unit. He has too much wine...hmmmmmm!!!

A wine cellar sounds heavenly!

@ Carol...OK, DK Yappy Hour at my house...I have a wine cooler downstairs in the wet bar and a little room that will eventually be a wine room.  Everyone just has to bring a bottle of wine so I can fill them up!

@ Michele...I have a key for the wine fridge...I will lock that as soon as she realizes WHAT is in it.  She loves to try to jump up on the couch and get to the end tables and sneak a sip of wine.  We have to watch her like a hawk.

I do think agility classes would be a good idea.  Where she goes now for training they have a Puppy Agility class.  She can't take the other ones until she is at least 1 year and has passed CGC test.  Oh, and handler (I think that means me) must be able to run and handle the agility training (oh-oh...I better get working out).

I guess where there is a will, there is a way. I thought maybe you had a step stool or something. Cute Rua!
