Monty's first road trip

I had a conference to attend in San Diego in June and since my DH's son is in NAVY and stationed in San Diego, we've decided to make this a family vacation. So instead of me flying to the conference by myself, we drove from Denver to San Diego with Monty. This was Monty's first long trip and I have to admit, I was not sure what to expect. To my great relief, he did just great. In fact, I believe he was born to travel. He slept most of the time while the car was moving.

And when we stopped for a potty break, we made sure there was a park for him to chase a ball.

Or at least pose with Mom for a scenic picture in the middle of nowhere in Utah.

Monty was not too impressed with the "original pet friendly Motel 6" where we stayed our first night. You kind of get suspicious if your dog sniffs every single inch of a hotel room as soon as he enters. He was restless the first night and worried about every single strange sound he heard. So we've decided to upgrade the next night and spent twice the money for a Hampton hotel in Las Vegas. Monty felt right at home. It must be the fancy poodle part, I'm guessing. No suspicious sniffing involved. I tried to barter with the hotel management and offered Monty to pose for their hotel advertising in exchange for a free room.

We made it to San Diego a day earlier than originally planned, mainly thanks to our wonderful co-pilot Monty.

He was THRILLED about the fresh ocean air.

He also loved the view from our hotel room that gave him a chance to keep track of all the ducks living in the hotel pond right outside.

He loved running on the beach and meeting all his friends.

Every day in San Diego was filled with happiness and adventure for Monty and he sure loved it.

And since I'm out of characters for this blog and can't post another picture, just imagine worn out Monty sleeping peacefully on the hotel bed. :-)

Thanks, GBK. Nancy and Nancie mentioned that. Las Vegas was only our sleep-over stop, it was way too hot to explore. But the next time we go, I will definitely make sure we stay for a couple of days and have a doodle romp.

Next time you stop by in Vegas, we would love to get together you all !  We have a great doodle group here and we would get a doodle romp together just for you.  We can always find a cool place to meet, last July with Ann, Mike, Duke and Sheba we did a dog friendly Mt Charleston hike with lunch after at the Lodge.

Looks like you had a great time in San Diego, we were out visiting with Nancy and Nancie last March, we had sooo much fun too :)  Love the pictures!

What a great road trip!  Loved all the pictures.  Monty is like my Stuart - just sleeps while that car is moving - gotta love that.  Last week I drove from Florida to Michigan by myself with Rooney & Stuart, stopping in Atlanta at dd house for a break.  I love road trips with my boys, so glad that you had fun.

I recently took a road trip with Shelby to go to a wedding. It was just one really long day of driving each direction about 13 hours.... we had a great time and she was such a good little travel buddy. She was such a good girl when I left for the wedding - was gone about 5 hours and she was in the hotel room by herself. She did great. I know if I were traveling cross county - we'd be good. She was more comfortable with me there obviously - but I did a good job wearing her out before the wedding - found the local dog park and took a visit to PetSmart - she was tuckered out and slept much of the time I was gone I imagine. Sure was a lot more fun traveling with Shelby then by myself!!!

Jarka, I have been away for a few days and missed this blog!  Your pics are great and it looks like y'all had a great time!  San Diego is one of our favorite places to visit!  Hugs to you and your boy!

What a fun travelogue! Thanks so much for posting these great photos. I love that you met up with the San Diego DKers. I'm so impressed that you followed Monty's lead in the suspicious sniffing alarm he sent you. Crazy that the sniffing didn't happen in the better motel. Kinda gives one the shivering fits thinking about it. ;o)
