I've never had a black eye before....I do now.  Last night Murph started feeling better and got the zoomies.  Guinness just wasn't in the mood for that, so he hid under our bed.  Murph was jumping on and off the bed while racing around the upstairs like a lunatic.  I bent down because I wanted to coax Guinness out, and just as I did this Murph hurled himself off the bed and his head hit mine.  I went literally flying across the room, glasses off and bent, and landed in a heap.  That's when my face started swelling up.  I yelled for DH (crying like a baby because it hurt BAD).  Murph was just fine though....didn't hurt his head at all.  So now the eye is swollen and black.  It looks like I've done nine rounds.  I'm mortified to go out....everyone will surely think "domestic dispute".  Murphy, Murphy, Murphy, what am I going to do with you!  He did understand that something was really wrong with his Mom though because he was very "attentive" after the "incident".

My childhood dog broke my mom's nose. Mom was sitting on the floor agaist the couch when the dog went whizzing by to get to my sister.

Sorry that you were injured. Just wear some really big dark shades!

Your poor eye looks so tender..  Now I know why you needed spring flowers.  :-{

I can just hear the excuses now.... The dog did it! (Sure...)

Murphy had the zoomies (Zoomies, they will ask? Is that a disease? Is is contagious?)

I was on the floor and the dog just ran into me.... (And why were you on the floor - before or after the altercation with hubby?)

I guess that I would just use the old I ran into the door excuse...

LOL...at the close-up.   I was thinking you'd just 'crop' out or photoshop the rest of your face to make it unrecognizable.  That is some bright purple eye shadow1

I feel your pain Jane.  Last weekend I was outside tossing the ball around for Gavin.  At one point we both reached down to get in and Gavin came up under me hitting me in the nose with the top of his very hard head.  I saw stars!  I made my way inside all hunched over and once the tears cleared explained what happened to DH.  "I hope your eyes don't turn black - I don't want anyone to think it was a domestic dispute!"  GEEE Thanks for your concern!!  My nose is still pretty tender :(

OUCH! At least you can say a hefty dood gave you that shiner.  My 7 lb cat gave me one a few years ago; my friends still accuse DH.  Raw steak does seem to make an eye feel better (or maybe it is the anticipation of grilling it later).  Feel better.

oweee, owee, owee!  Jane, you are indeed a good sport.  I hate to tell you but it will most likely look worse in a day or so.  grab those sunglasses when you have to leave the house.  :)  Hope you feel better very soon!

Jack has given me black eyes at two different times.  The first time we were going into the dog park and he jerked me, slammed my cheek into the steel post.  I had an egg on my cheekbone and a black eye.  The second time he was waking me up and hit me in the eye with his paw.  His dewclaw caught on the skin just under my eye so again, black eye and cut.

Youch!   I have had several black eyes. ( Usually falling off a horse when I was young).  I always had to go to the eye doctor to have the retina checked.  Maybe you should do that just to be safe.  After black comes purple, then yellow.  I always thought that was worst.  No sympathy, you just look like death.  Murphy owes you several good cuddles.
