He is the most adorable dog in the world. He is loveable, sweet, very smart, but he is soooo active. He loves the outdoors, but, he cannot be out all the time. We travel and work on the road a lot, and have a 45 ft rv. He is now 6 months old, and hasnt traveled with us yet. We will be heading out the first of the yr for several weeks at a time. I am worrying that he will be miserable. Do they usually settle down when they start getting older? When he is inside, even after romping outside and getting tired, he paces the floor and squeeks constantly. The only thing that makes him settle down is to put him in his kennel. He is content there. Just wondering? Oh, he is huge too, lol.

He is going tomorrow to get "fixed". Does that settle them down any?

When Cooper was little she would only settle down inher crate. As she got older she could be left in her ex pen attached to her crate) to chill. Now she will lay down and sleep when she is tired :) Charlie will too when hes older

It is not unusual that Charle will only "chill" in his kennel. You can teach him to "chilI" outside of the kennel, but it will take a while. The easiest way is to hook him to his leash and to something very heavy and practice several times a day. The first time when he quiets himself ( think laying and no or less noise) praise him quietly, no treats, and let him free. Gradually work up to laying and quiet, dozing, sleeping etc. This can be a rather lenthgy process with a 6 month old very active dog. If possible the place should be near you as he will be near you in the RV. If you leave the room he may find it easier to chill (or not) but for the RV you will always be near.

If possible it would best to put his kennel in the RV. Just the mat of his kennel may work with a little effort. Or choose a place that is his in the RV and start practicing at home in the RV to teach him that is his quiet place. Take some work or a book with you. Enjoy your time on the road.
