I am taking a moment to brag about my daughter. She just returned safely from a trip to Muscat, Oman (borders Saudi Arabia). She was there for three weeks, traveled the entire way by herself, and had an incredible time. When she told us she was going to Oman, I have to admit I was so worried. She got her PhD in Special Education in July and wants to travel the world. She was able to combine both by taking a temporary position to help teachers in Oman set up an inclusive school. Within one week, she would write that she was going to dinner with friends and I would think, "Who does she know in Oman?"  Our daughter got to spend the last three days in Dubai, India, and went on a desert safari, rode a camel, and went to a huge mall that has a Downhill ski park, aquarium, and ice skating rink inside. I told her I would prefer to go on a dessert safari, but the mall sounded fantastic. We wanted to raise an independent daughter and I think we succeeded. Anyway, thanks for indulging me.

One other note, if daughter went to Oman, omg, I guess I'd be right there with your concerns.  But again, she had the wherewithal to do this, it came from strong parents,,,,,,,,,,,she'll be fine!

Cool~  I'm always scared to death about the stuff my college graduate has gotten involved with!  she was such a straight arrow, always dependable, always the good girl.  But man since she got out of college, she rocks.  She has even surprised me many times, that I asked if she wasn't doing stuff on purpose just to see if she could get my jaw hanging on the floor!  But you know, it starts at home.  :)    Used to take my girl out of school for an important political event and such........:)  Congratulations on a free thinker, as I tend to think of it.  You have done well mom!  As for Doodlekisses, my 24 year old "adult child" smiles at my latest endeavor.  She is the one that convinced me it was way over time to get another dog!

What an an amazing opportunity for your daughter Laurie.

She sounds like quite a remarkable  woman...and you must be very proud of her!

I think that she and my daughter would get along quite well.

She is leaving for a two month post in Ireland...and has traveled to many countries for her job.

I wish your daughter the best...in all that she does...

Good job Laurie!!!!  That is what we all aspire to as parents - to raise our children to be decent, passionate, hard working and hard playing adults that contribute to the world - she certainly is all that!!!!!

Thanks, everyone. I am going to tell her to check out this blog and read all her nice compliments. She kids me all the time about being on DoodleKisses, so she can see for herself how wonderful the people are on this website.

Wow what an adventure.  You do so have every right to be proud!  I love independent women!  DH was recently offered a job in Dubai ...... we said no thanks, we are too old for that now!  20 years ago maybe, but not now!

What a wonderful adventure!  You truly raised an independent daughter who knows how to live life to the fullest and enrich others' lives at the same time.  I'd be a very proud mom too.
