Labradoodle & Goldendoodle Forum

So I felt I needed a photo, so I put one up of me, Bruiser and Bailey. I got Bruiser and Baily in September of 1997. Bruiser/Bailey's mother was a purebred Golden Retriever and their dad was a purebred Labrador Retriever.I helped my mom deliver their litter and then spent the next 8 weeks helping to raise them. Then they came home with me and lived happily for the next 11.5 years. They died within 6 weeks of each other from hemangiosarcomas in their right atrium. As siblings, it is not unusual that they died of the same thing, or even within 6 weeks of each other, but what was unusual is that I got 2 dogs out of an 11 puppy litter that had this particular type of tumor. To our knowledge none of the other dogs died this way, although we hadn't heard from everyone. In any case, I got 11.5 years of happy times out of 2 large dogs.

I wanted to remember them a little bit before I get my new Doodle. It has been over a year now since they died, and of course I will never forget them, but now I am ready to make some new memories!

Will post a new picture once the Doodle arrives in 6 days!!!!

I am so sorry about your wonderful pets, but I am hopeful that your new doodle will fill your heart with as much joy as Bruiser and Bailey did.

What a beautiful but sad story. Your new baby will bring happiness back into your heart. Doodles just have a way of doing that. Please post lots of photos when the baby arrives!!

Beautiful photo!! I too had a "Bruiser" and you are really bringing back some great memories for me. He was a total "Heinz 57". Can't wait to see your new Doodle and hear their name!

The new puppy is a boy. I haven't done anything with names yet, as I always have the dog a couple of days until I decide (except Bruiser was named when he was 2 days old, as he was about an inch longer than the other 10 puppies and would pummel them to get to the teat when Chili Pepper got in the whelping box with them). I like to get a feel for their personality and see if a name comes to me based on that. For example, my rescued Lhasa Apso is named Bling Bling because her personality is sparkly like a diamond. :)

I have frequent insomnia but have been sleeping pretty well as of late. Will try to enjoy that the next few days.....

That is a great picture, and I bet they were amazing dogs. Both are great breeds, it sounds like a great mix! They were beautiful. Congratulations on the new doodle, I can't wait to hear updates on him/her!
