Labradoodle & Goldendoodle Forum

So, because I need to be working on my research paper for publication, naturally I am posting on my blog instead.

My husband was so against me getting a new dog last year when I informed him that I was going to put a deposit down on a Doodle for a spring-time baby. He said "I don't want another dog" (this after we lost 3 dogs last year). My reply "EVER???" (this will not work for me because I always have a big dog). He said "Not right now" and I said "Well that is good, because it will be more like 10 months from now".

Over time he tried to resist or say it wasn't allowed (LOL, I find this hilarious). I simply informed him that if I wasn't happy, no one in the house was going to be happy! Through the months, he always said things like "I don't want a Doodle". Notice he said Doodle. Not dog, or puppy, or Labradoodle. But the affectionate Doodle. He claims dogs are too emotionally expensive. SIGH.

Well, since I informed him the Doodle was born, less and less resistance (he understands that I will do as I please some of the time -- I know -- typical woman). I asked if he wanted to be a part of the decision making process, coat color, etc. Nope. Ok, I will get what I want.

I predict the over/under on the time until he is cuddling with the Doodle will be approximately 1 week. my husband LOVES and dotes on all of our animals, so there will be no resisting something as cute as MY Doodle. HAHA.

I will update the Doodle/husband progress as it evolves..........

I keep re-reading this blog, because it makes me remember how my DH (dear this time) was hesitant. He just called me to tell me about Peri going to daycare this morning. He said she was "scooting across the floor" and started laughing hysterically. I told her I ordered her 1st bday cake today and he said "she is such a good girl, I cannot believe she will be a year old". SUCKER!!! Sometimes I think he thinks she is cuter than her mommy :)

Nancy, Skip is a saint among doodle dads. Any time you want to rehome him, we have a long list of pre-approved applicants!

The first doodle was an impulse buy that both my DH and I impulsively chose. The second one last week. I saw him at the humane society fund raiser and told DH about him. No. No way. Not gonna' happen. We have too many dogs.......and on and on. Then on Thursday -my deadline day for someone, anyone to take this dood out of the shelter - my DH rushes home from work and loads us into the car to get our Clancy. So who was the sucker????? errr I mean rescuer???

My husband also didn't want a dog. It took me 2 years of looking at dogs longingly till he finally caved, and even then he was only doing it for me. When our doodle was about 6 mos old I actually had to talk him out of getting another one. I do all the brushing and grooming and I don't have the time right now to devote to another doodle and it's the only kind of dog I would have. I give your hubby 5 mins before he caves and falls totally in love with your new puppy. Our doodle goes everywhere with us and has only been left alone on a few occassions. I plan my days around the dog and making sure he gets his exercise in. On the days that I work Quincy goes to work with my husband. We are very lucky that he can do this. I have worked 12hr rotating shifts for over 30 years and recently turned down an all day monday to friday job because I wouldn't have as much time with Quincy. The things we do for love. :)

Happy wife - happy life. That's the moto at our house! I give him two and a half hours. He has to hold out a little bit, just to prove a point.

How funny! My husband said no more dogs either,,,,,,,I always wanted a Doodle(but never thought I'd be able to aford one) then my lab mix I had gotten at the shelter when he was 12 months old passed away at 11 1/2 years old unexpectedly in Feb.of 2008, in July of 2008 my husband looked around for a breeder drove 300 miles in one direction and surprised me with one for my birthday (I couldn't believe it) she eventually chewed our wooden patio furniture, 3 birch trees he planted last year that I kept replacing(now she has one of her own) and we won't even get into how many holes in the yard.... but after all of this he has said at least 3 times this month when he was talking to people about Molly that she is actually a really good dog (yes this came from his mouth) and he really likes to cuddle with her on the floor at night before we put her in the kennel sooooo I think your husband will come around too it's just a guy thing we have a choc. lab we've had since he was 6 weeks old he's now 10yrs old if anything happens to him I'd like to get a tan or cream colored doodle from the rescue site on here of course my husband sasys no more dogs and I just like to remind him from time to time that's what he always says but he is the one who drove clear across the state to surprise me with Molly! Can't wait to see pictures of your puppy!! They are such a great dog and sooooo smart and lovable..

So funny! The conversation you had with your husband about a getting a doodle is similar to the one I had with my then boyfriend, now husband. He won't be able to resist!!!! Now, get to work on your research paper so hubby doesn't get upset about the time you spend on DK!!!!
